But If a registrar is called domainmonkey...
I might as well go for domainass, domaindonkey, or simply domainjackass.

No insult intended to whomever owns these domains...

I own DomainGator because I'm in central Florida :-D

my experience exactly. I've so far been lucky enough to be able to get to contact registrar and make them correct stuff manually. when registrar's pages work only 50% and you have to guess URLs to be able to change contacts you really start to ask yourself questions. I had to ask pool twice who even is my registrar because the new whois doesn't show that anymore. Now they at least added info about which registrar has your domain to their site

As mentioned here before, that is one of the reasons I stopped using Pool (in addition to the insane prices). They sent me to several very bad registrars, a few based in Asia (Korea, Japan and even India I believe) did not even have fully functional websites, or only worked on occasion with bugs, making nameserver and owner changes next to impossible.

Sometimes the usrname/paswrd supplied fails, often the firms ignore email or support requests. What idiots, how do the registrars stay in business? Must be the income they get from Pool.

Not looking forward to when I try to transfer them away as I am sure it will be a huge problem at that time, perhaps impossible to do. It's amazing Pool.com would deal with these schlock firms.

actually it's not amazing at all. all until there's no better service than pool's they will be able to work with such a scumbag registrars. pool simply doesn't give a shit because there is no better service around at this time. when competition comes that will grab more and have better support, pool will sink. and maybe the won't even care - they already made their retirements so why would they even? those registrars stay in biz and are in biz strictly for pool - that's a common sense. they are all in the game for the quick buck and rape anyone else till it blows.

I have got some very good domains through pool but in some cases I have faced same problems. The only way out seems to wait for 60 days and transfer out the domain to registrar of your choice.

Yes, that should work. But what if the registrar doesn't even bother to accept your whois? You can't transfer out if the domain is in limbo.

This seems to be the game plan unless the domain was automatically locked at one of these terrible registrars.

all it takes is a simple network, a domain name (IF necessary), and a script and voila! you can become a pool 'registrar'!

When and If you are lucky and get a domain, and by the law of averages, you are bound to, you get your commission.
Now, If you speak only Swahili, that's not pool's problem...

That's not how the Pool contracts with the registrars work. If you're talking about being a Pool affiliate (and not a "Pool registrar") than that's a different thing. Registrar partners of Pool don't get a "commission".

I just recently changed registrars from Pool catches. One from Korea and the other from Japan. They were slow to respond to emails, but eventually they let my names go...

Of course for another domain, Pool has stuck me with a registrar in Kuwait. They have been ignoring me for a week now....

If they ever respond I am sure they will be contacting me in Arabic.

They get half the auction final value if the high bidder actually pays.

BTW, anyone noticed today that pool's site SSL certificate had problems??
For at least 3 hours, IE kept telling me that the certificate and site dont match and that any connection would not be secure. Also, pool was very very slow today (the site) although apparently it did very well at catching domains (3 out of 4 that I placed). Now lets see if the price stays reasonable or sky rockets as usual...

Just sit it out for 2 months, then run like hell to familiar territory. Transfers could be slow though. This is day 7 of my transfer request out of Directi.com. Hope it doesn't blow.

Bring on WLS!

Maybe that's elequa's registrar.

The registrar is www.netonedomains.com AKA www.shop4domain.com AKA Computer Data Networks.

After 10 days I am getting a bit edgy. I have set 3 messages with no reply.

Today, they denied my domain transfer..... They can't take the time to even reply to me.

Unless someone knows these folks I guess my next step is a complaint to ICANN.

Anyone?

I've been trying to do a complaint to ICANN and can't get a reply from them either. If you figure out how, please let us all know.
