System outage/slowness on Monday, December 9, 2002

About 3am PST, one of our main colocation facilites was flooded by a Denial Of Service attack/major influx of DNS queries. A Denial of Service attack (DOS) is an intentional launch of computer generated queries, e-mail or other form of internet traffic against a company's web site or network. You may remember similar attacks recently that interrupted or deteriorated services to companies like e-Bay and Verisign Global Registry Services.

In our case, this caused services provided on our network (DNS/URL forwarding, Email Forwarding, and Websites) to appear unavailable or very slow to anyone outside the network.

We understand the frustration that many of you experienced yesterday and appreciate your patience during this attack. While this situation could happen to any company doing business on the Internet, we have already put more resources in place to fortify our systems against this type of attack. We are committed to providing the best possible service to our customers, and are doing everything possible to prevent this from happening in the future.
