I don't want to rain on your parade Steve but, IMHO TheNameStore.com would be better than just NameStore.com, just like 'The Money Store' is better than just 'Money Store', 'the liquor store' is better than just 'liquor store' and 'The TV store' is better than just 'TV store'. I think it is more intuitive and reflects how people speak if the 'the' precedes most 'store' names.

I disagree. NameStore.com is MUCH better than "TheNameStore.com" from a branding perspective. Use of the word-- "The"--- before the URL dumbs down the name by a factor of 100, as it's already "implied".

Word of mouth is the cheapest and best form of advertising there is on the internet. Short and Sweet names that don't include "The" or "e" in them often get remembered more often that the former.

I agree 1,000%. Adding "The" to a domain name drops the value dramatically. NameStore.com is a great name - doesn't get any more memorable than that.

If domain names reflected the way people speak they would be entire sentences. People have to type these names in so the shorter the better. Personally I have almost never gone beyond two words. Unless you have something like ForSaleByOwner, anything over two is likely to wipe out the resale value of a name. I normally will not even pay reg fee for a name with The in front of it.

 Not for my money!
Again, Good Luck.

Thanks Guys - I agree Duke - We do not own one name in any of our inventories with the word THE in it - I just ran through our DBase and out over 200,000 domains we have listed for sale only 3 brokered domains have THE in them and they are not our's. Generally makes a domain too long and unnecessary to keyword a site. Although - TheNameStore.Com is better than nothing and probally worth a couple of dollars, it would not be for us. Thanks for the Posts all!!! Glad to have the input!! Steve

Those are great names Steve! I'd say $750 at least :)

Theless wonders;

Unless you remember the countless commercials starring Phil Rizuto pitching "The Money Store" on TV ALL thru the Eighties, then I guess you might not be able understand where I am coming from... I'm saying historically, numerous very successful businesses used THE preceding their name, PARTICULARLY when the last word in the name is STORE.

I'd also go so far to say that a THE ____ STORE
name is, uh! oh!, dare I say it, better Grammer than a ____ STORE name...

***Hey, all you naysayers that posted above! Where are your ____STORE success stories like I've cited, i.e. 'The Money Store' ? Well, where are they ???

Another thing. Check out these examples of two Americans (Your main mass market, right?) talking...

man1 - Hey man2, Where are you going?
man2 - Liquor Store!
man1 - Why the attitude? Later jerk...

as opposed to this exchange...

man1 - Hey man2 Where are you going?
man2 - The Liquor Store
man1 - Cool...Party on Man2!

See everyone... the evidence is clear... in example one man2 used poor grammer and got off to a very bad start with man1 (your customer).

Ha. Ha. Ha. Wow. I have to admit I am funny (am humorous) sometimes.

Also, BTW, I'd think THE in front would be stronger branding wise, but not TM wise. TM wise your url trumps the THE version.

Further, NameStore.com, imo, is not general enough to cover all the web related services (hosting, developing, etc.) you'd want to offer.

Finally Steve, If you are looking for that special domain that is uniquely capable of enabling your company to take on NSI, Register.com, and the others, I think your company may want to keep looking... Are you/they looking for a domain registrar, broker, web development megasite domain ???

And oh yeah... Don't get me wrong. I think that Namestore.com is a very sharp url indeed ( Solid $2,000 usd value to a serious existing or new registrar reseller) but let me ask you this Steve... How far is namestore.com going to take you before your company's product and service offerings outgrow it ??? Think about it mon...

Just letting you in on what I'm thinking about this domain. Don't forget, you did post for an appraisal, right??? There are a lot of angles to consider when choosing a name and I know you know that Steve. So, Peace and Positive K to you,

Mike

Nice name for domain brokerage site.

US$1,200 to US$1,500

I agree that NameStore.com is much better than TheNameStore.com.

However, in some cases it is better to have "the" in front of the domain. For example, I think that the domain TheWholeEnchilada.com is better than WholeEnchilada.com.

SO have em both. That IS the best route.

Steve,
I never read this thread before. It was before I came aboard.

As I told you, we are also going ahead with our store.

TheNamesStore.com

It was interesting to hear all of the comments.

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks Much - Spietreser - Toho - morel and NexCorp!!!!!! Hello Richard - Good Luck with TheNamesStore -
Just to answer many inquiries here - We have turned down a number of offers for these two names from Registrars and others - They are recieving about 600 - 1000 Type Ins a day. A new site is in development to add to our 31 Domain Registration sites, as we speak. Thanks all for the posts - Appreciate the input - We do not do TheAnything in domain names - Too long for us - Thanks much - Steve

Whilst the above may be true for the spoken word (as in the conversation example you quote) it is definitely not the case for Internet Website Addresses.
"The" in Internet website addresses tends to dumb-down the address unless an exceptional case (eg I have "theunitedkingdom.org" NOT "unitedkingdom.org" because that is THE accepted title).
Steve this name is excellent $500 - $1000 reseller and whatever you can get if you sold name with the bonus of a developed site.

Mr Webname - Thanks for the response - Good to hear your thoughts - Some folks like THE and that is OK - Just not with us unless as a rare exception as theunitedkingdom.org which is a great Country Domain Name - We owned TheIslands a few years back and that worked also - If THE needs to go in front of domain names then how about THEXXX.COM or maybe just XXX.Com - I think I would buy XXX.Com and sounds like you would also - Thanks again Mr Webname - Steve

Super name!

I have to say at least $5,000

Thanks Ken - Appreciate the number - Boy do you have some Great 3 letter .coms!!! Congrad. on those - Thanks again - Steve

NameStore.com is truly a great name. I'd assumed Verisign had them all this time (like NameEngine.com). I agree with Top Names with "at least $5,000". The "the" discussion I feel is a deadend. It's best "competing/similar" name for its assumed application is "NameMarket.com", but... well, y'know. ;)
