How can I figure out the namewinner bid on a name without having to input the $30 minimum bid?

Place a minimum bid - say $8.75 and it will take you to the "Your Domain Auction Centre" and at the top box it will tell you that your bid was under the minimum bid. Look for "Min Bid" and underneath it will say "View" - click on this and a code box will popup, complete the code and it will show you the minimum bid.

Suppose that no one has bid on the name: now you're the high bidder at $8.75. Does NameWinner still allow bid retraction if you're the only bidder?

Yes they do allow bid retraction before the actual dropdate, if nobody else has placed a bid. but the simplest way is to bid $1, and you can then view the current bid without placing one.

one quick note: they only allow you to delete a few (i think 2 or 3...check) entries
