I've noticed it to. Several times now I have waited until less than 5 minutes before closing time to place a snipe bid (but still well before the deadline) only to be greeted by a message saying the name has already been registered!

How can that happen when the drop hasn't even started yet? I will check at PIR and sure enough it was registered that day by Dotster - before the drop. So who are they giving these names to that they are getting in advance (and how can I be put on the list to also be given some before anyone else has a chance to bid on them?) :-D

Since you mentioned PIR, you must be talking about .org domains which don't drop at the same time as .com and .net domains. If you waited until less than 5 minutes before closing time, then it's too late because the .org drop has already taken place.

I must have missed the logical explanation about what happened in my case. I am not talking about anything listed as Pending. What happened to me is I tried to placed higher bids prior to the beginning of the drop and received a message that the domain had already been registered. These are not domains that dropped a year ago. I checked the WhoIs on all of them and they have all shown up on my Pending Delete lists. I'm not suggesting anything underhanded is going on - just wondering why this is occurring because it has happened several times now. When I switch over to PIR to see if it had really aleady been registered and on that specific day and the answer has always been yes - registered at Dotster.

I was working on yours. ;-)

I know they drop at a different time. I put in the bids prior to the start of the morning .org drop.

Third of all, just because NameWinner shows a status of "PENDING" doesn't necessarily mean they got it. Their system has been prone to errors in the past.

This is what everyone is seeing I'm sure. I saw several .orgs at NW in Pending status that had not been dropped yet.

Case in point... beetles.org showed Pending for weeks but still had not dropped. Later, it was caught by Pool. Incidentally, bidding for these was not possible at NW because they mistakenly had them marked as pending.

In my case it's a .net. I'll wait until tomorrow to see how it goes. Mabey there's a glitch in their system and it thinks they got it because they previously held the reg. Who knows...

Jolt,

The same problem exist with the .com and .nets

I think earlier this month ChinaPlates.com was dropping. and, NW showed it pending before the drop date.

I am sure they are aware of the problem. But, they probably have bigger problems to worry about. Like how to keep up with Pool.

Even with all of their problems, I think Snap, NW and Pool do a fantastic job considering all the things they need to do to satisfy all of us.

Jolt, wait until tomorrow to confirm yours.

It was picked up by NamesBeyond. elequa was the lucky recipient. :)

Guys whats the name?

First of all, a registrar cannot restore a domain in the "PENDINGDELETE" stage.

Its happened before, and it most likely will happen again.

Anything is possible with our friends at VS/NSI.

i know that nw can make mistakes with the pending status as its automated and i have caught names that showed pending at nw and were in fact mine

at regular drop time

Jule.net was $60 successfull backorder by pool.com
