I'll have to respectfully disagree.
I dont know how much you follow the pool droping prices recently (or NW), but there are names going for what at least I believe to be end user prices, and in many cases, more than end user (from a reseller point of view) because of sentimental bidding.
I have reduced my use of Pool and Namewinner by 98%.
One year ago, it was the
exact opposite.
As for Pool going up to end user prices.
You are correct. Because, one or two people are bidding blindly.
All you need is one of the bidders to be emotionally involved.
However, it might be better for Pool. Instead of $ 100 profit on
on a 100 domains. They might be making $ 300 profit on 35 names.
If they were losing revenue over the past 9 months compared to the
previous year (which I thought they would have been), they should
have reverted back to the old bidding system.
But, they haven't. So, I assume they are still making money.
It use to be that Namewinner would catch approx. 25-35% of the names
I was chasing. Then, they went to their new bidding process.
There, again, you are bidding blindly. So, I don't even look anymore.
Eventhough, Enom's system is also blind bidding. For some reason, I trust
them. Plus, they do, at least, tell you how many other people are involved
in the bidding process.
Nothing is consistent/constant in the domain business. So, next year
we will be complaining about a different service.
(This time last year, we were all saying that Snapnames was dead !!!)
And, one to two years ago, we were complaining about Ultimate.
Next year, we will be complaining about Adam. :-D
