Olympic, Olympics, etc in reference to Olympic Games are registered trademarks of the IOC, and they are very serious about protecting their IP. They charge sponsors a lot of money to use the term Olympic.

I regged a handful of Olympic names before the games last spring, and quickly dumped them once I discovered the trademark. I figured that the Olympics have been around for a few thousand years, so they MUST be in public domain, right? Wrong.

Yeah it's incredible how the Olympics can be a TM considering it been around since before TM's existed.

Apparently there are some exceptions. It's all about use, the ancient Olympics predate the modern ones and in that sense there seems to be a distinction.
