Well, you've probably never heard of this, but keep an open mind anyway:
I would like to be instantly alerted whenever a new domain name is listed for sale without having to constantly come back to the site.
simcast.com.au offers this technology - the ability to sign your users up to an instant alert system which can be totally invisible in your browser, but whenever the webmaster sends out an alert it instantly shows a small message in the top right hand corner of your screen - the user can either click on the link to bring them to the page specified by the webmaster or click on a hide button to make it go away. It doesn't matter where on the Internet the user is - the instant alert is independent of that.
Anyway, I don't think it would be too hard to hook this up automatically so that anyone registered for the service receives the instant sales thread alerts. I and I think others would be happy to pay for this add-on service so your variable costs would be fixed and the setup cost is pretty small. You could also send out messages from the webmaster - notices, announcements etc.
Anyway, the guy who owns the company - Michael - is my cousin, so let me know if you want more info and I can introduce you to him and maybe get a deal. If you want to try it out just sign up at www.simcast.com.au and sign up for one of the alerts channels they offer - you can remove it very easily afterwards if you want.
