I have been noticing and hearing that domains without nameservers are ending up on "on-hold" domain lists.

Does this mean that if you own a domain and don't put in nameservers you are in danger of losing the domain????

I dont think so, usually when you reg a Domain and no DNS is supplied I believe the registrars are used by default.

That certainly sounds possible, John. From what I remember, there was an old REQUIREMENT that domains registered *must* be pointed to a nameserver somewhere. Ininitally NetSol did not automatically do this for people, so if you wanted to reg a name, and had no idea where to put it, it was a little funky.

Now, like Tippy mentioned, most all registrars have you pointed somewhere upon registration, regardless of whether you'll be doing something with the domain immediately.

Not sure of policies, but I know NetSol has had a lot to answer for regarding the integrity of its Whois records, and this may well be another thing they're trying to crack down on (or other registrars for that matter).

Some speculation anyway.

I've never had a problem. However I have noticed my names that have no nameserves pop up in lists.

No danger. The reason why they are showing up on your dropping lists is because when the domain no longer has nameservers associated with it, it gets removed from the master zone files.

Sites like exody are monitoring zone files to watch when domains are removed in order to detect expired names. So in this case, it inaccurately reports the domain as expiring when it is not.

Is it possible to completely remove any nameservers at enom? It would seem that most places at least require something be in that field or they will put their default traffic page up in it's place.
