I'm sorry if I was unclear in my earlier post. I don't think it's time to jump from high elevations just yet.

My understanding is that the registry is going to light up the transfer processes fairly soon (maybe as early as several weeks from now, but I'm not sure I'd bank on that). So at least the technical barrier that exists today will be removed.

Binaryman... it would be interesting to see if you can get them to clarify whether they're saying that it's just the lack of a computer process that causes them to say "not allowed." This could be a translation problem -- in the US we might say "not able" to transfer when we haven't got the interface lit up yet.

I would be surprised to hear that what they're saying is that people are never going to be allowed to transfer .EU names. That would indeed be amazing, and would leave most of the 1.5+ domain-holders holding the bag. I think what's really being said is "our computer systems won't allow us to transfer the name." But that would be important to confirm with your contact person there.

Hi Mike, I speak Dutch and the Eurid in Belgium speak Dutch also. Here is their message to me.
"Het is helemaal niet de bedoeling dat .eu domeinnamen verkocht worden
Om welke domeinnaam gaat het trouwens, het is misschien best dat ons juridisch
departement dit even onderzoekt om de te gaan of u niet met illegale praktijken
bezig bent.
Het Eurid Team

The translation can only be interpreted in one way as it is quite straightforward and clear. It does not remotely imply that it has anything to do with their computer systems not being ready yet. It states the following very clearly.

"It is not at all the intention that .eu domains are to be sold. Which is the domain in question? Perhaps it is best if our juridical department investigates this to establish if you are not perhaps busy with illegal practises"
The Eurid Team

That is the translation.

Relax. If you can transfer a name to another owner, there can always be money involved.
There's no way this can be controlled by anyone.

I think the person from EurID was confused with 'application pending' domains: domains that are not yet registered cannot, and should not, be sold to another party.

Wow. That is pretty darn clear all right. Thanks for that translation. Astounding.
