Looking for thoughts on 45000.com

It's my first 5 number/zipcode type domain.

I bought it becuase I like the 45000 sound, the fact that it was a round number, etc. It wasn't until after the fact that it was pointed out to be a working Zip Code as well. Zips are good buys, aren't they?

Anyway, So... how'd I do?

Difficult to say the value, but I sure
hope you have also acquired the domain
fortyfivethousand.com (!).

...you want your 'identity' to pass the
'radio test' don't you??

Regards,

Oops, i've just checked and it's still available
... if you feel strongly about 45000.com then
you had better reg this name right away!

Hmmm... apparently he was wrong. I'm not getting a zip code listing either. I was told it pointed to somewhere in Ohio.

So much for taking someone's word for it. :(

Anyway, I still like the domain.

Nice name.

Not too sure about the value, but my guess would be:

to reseller - $30 to $80

to end user $150 to $500

On that basis, I revise my appraisal to

$70 to $130 reseller
$150 to $500 end user

:)

That was a year ago. Since then, the numerical domain market has seen tremendous growth. I would say your appraisal is at least 1/3 of market value.

Okay... risking sounding like a complete noob... WHY should I buy FortyFiveThousand.com to protect 45000.com?

Is there some number hijacking conspiracy I don't know about?

Seriously, what's the play here?

You don't have to. Noone in their right mind would type the words in for any number over 100.

IMO, 5 digit domain values are based almost entirely on if the number is a postal zipcode or not, and if so the demographics of the zipcode, including population, growth and proximity to a large city or in a metro area.

For example, a zipcode in a suburban area with comparative low population (vs the main city population area), good growth potential, active buidling and real estate market should have a domain value of about mid 4-figure, possibly more.

I don't see much value at all in 45000.com. Why not 46000, or 40000? If it has no significance as a zip code, then it is just a completely random 5 digit .com. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $reg - $20 for it.

I've just checked, and fortyfivethousand.com
has an owner now (regged on 20/09!).

Don't think the registrant is the same as the
owner of 45000.com, so I guess it's a lesson
to all of us that people on this forum will try
to be quick and sneaky and hope to profit at
your expense; even if 'the prize' is only a few
dollars!!... hehe.

Whoever registerd that should be called out on this forum if they are a member here...

Anyway, the number version is a lot better, and you shouldn't have to worry about the spelled out version.

It's a good domain to be sure, even if it's not a ZIP code. (Hey it could become one still). I'd price it at $500-$1,000 to an end user.

Good luck!

Had to be a newbie with no idea. No member who knows about value would have went out and regged that domain.
