If we are unable to collect payment from the winner, the domain will eventually be auctioned off on our site.

How can reward fraudulent bidding. I thought I had seen postings on the site in reference to nw going to the second bidder when there is a problem

WHERE IS NAMEWINNER GUY TO ANSWER!!!!

They tell me they are going to be putting all these names on an auction sometime in the future. I got outbid by one of those fake $2002 bids as well. The NW guy was Mart Mitford, and they tell me he doesn't work there anymore. Wish him luck wherever he lands.

I know that some names that are still showing as pending have been won and paid for by a friend.

I assume that for some reason, most, if not all, of the names won by "other people" will show up as pending indefinitely, even though they have been successfully adquired and paid for by someone.

I still remain very unclear on what happens for names which aren't paid for by the highest bidder.

I think that there is a "namewinner guy" who "replaced" Mark Mitford.

As far as I remember in Legal Terms they are telling about registering the name to 2nd bidder if the highest bidder did not pay. So they can not tell that they are auctioning the domain.

Check that.

Maybe if NW has a way of tracking all the people who had once put the name on their watch list at some point, they could restrict the auction to those people only (even if they later removed it from the watch list)

That way, one doesn't have a purely open auction, because others who hadn't been aware of the "good names" don't get a free drop list. Those who did have the interest in the name BEFORE THE DROP should be permitted to have a shot at it.

It really should go to the next highest bidder. I'm sure everything is logged and it would be an easy thing for them to do. I don't see any reason to offer it in a new public auction instead...aside from trying to make more money from it.

But, if only a couple people complain. They will probably hold the name to auction it off at a later date. Plus, they will then let "everyone" know what the names are. They could "fan the fire" to make more profit on each name. It is a "win, win" situation for THEM.

I guess that is why they call it name winner.

The only solution if for everyone to complain. And, require them to act ethically. If you were at a live auction. And, at the last minute, the highest bidder withdraws his offer. The auctioner would turn to the second highest bidder and say "sold".

But, one additional problem is that Name Winner will probably ignore your complaint (s).

Namewinner has made a ton of money over the past year wouldn't you say?
Anyone got any estimations of their net profit?

How can one place a fake bid? I don't get it. Don't they check the damn credit card upon sign up? If not, that's the problem.

further reply from nw. WHAT DOES THIS FORUM THINK

We have never and will never do the practice of awarding domains to the 2nd highest bidder. We are working on methods to reduce the amount of fraudulent bids placed in our system, but just because someone hasn't yet paid for a domain does not necessarily mean it was a fraudulent bid. The domain was just won a week ago; the person may be paying down a credit card so they can then have us bill them for the domain.

-1 that doesnt seem fare. i was the high bidder up till a few seconds before the bidding ended. having someone come in and put false bids in loses the domain for me and puts into question the validity of your auction. I would like to speak with someoneat a higher level regarding this issue as a i feel the domain should be awarded to me before you auction it off on the site .
I have seen postings on forums stating that is your usual method.
i await for your response.

I am new to the namewinner process, but i would say there exisits a possibility that namewinner uses the user community to select and prioritize those better and valuable domain names that are expiring. Since the names of the winners are not disclosed, there is no accountability to the uaction. Names could be stockpiled or sold in private transactions.

its the $2,002 bids that seem to indicate presreening...

It is also possible the the market reaction is, "i dont care what they are doing as long as i can somehow benefit from it"......in other words please of they let me in on the inside and i'll stop posing these questions..........

So i'll trace warrior.com and shoot.net currently at $7,000 and $800 and see who ends up with them.

on another note- does anyone know what "not in list" means in the status bar?

Should go to the second highest bidder after a 10-14 day witing period. The only problem with that is, what stops an entity that has no accountability to anyone from overbidding, and then stating that the highest bidder never paid. Namewinner needs to implement some form of accountability. No, we don't have to trust you just because you say so. Why is namewinners certificate expired? No Verisign, etrust etc.....

1. Call the Better Business Bureau.
2. Call your lawyer.
3. Don't do business with NW. I don't.

Hey, let's face the facts. Even though they can occasionally win a name for you, Namewinner can be an expensive and strange place.
  • Wierd Navigation System
  • Mysterious Bidding Practices
  • Questionable Support
  • Names stuck in Hi-Bid lists for years
  • NOT giving 2nd bidder defaulted names.
It's like buying oil from Lybia- Ya holds yer nose 'n pumps the gas!

Peace :)
