I'd hazard a guess that at the first drop cycle, 95% of what's registered will be available. These will be a) the really crap names that never stood a chance anyway, and b) those that never got to getting mobile-specific content available on their domain. I think .mobi will be a success for you, only if you're holding the right names.

Because of the 2 year reg. requirement the first drops are still nearly 2 years away...

i agree with your second paragraph. All is not what it appears, but then consumers have always been manipulated & always will.
From a .mobi owner's point of view i hope the big guns backing the extension manipulate the public & big business too! LOL

However i don't think we can compare .mobi to cctlds & .aero etc

It is a global tld. Simple. It's job is to be the .com for cellphones. Now the big question is will it last the course? I don't know, but i'm hoping it lasts a few years to bring some bacon in.

I agree, with the slow gradual auctioning off of premium names .mobi will give the .mobi brand a continuous boost of publicity over time. Look what flowers.mobi and fun .mobi generated. Imagine all the cities names have yet to be paid for as well as one worder and phrases galore premiums. Call it whatever you want, the big guys are showing up and saying you can't break their network, .mobi is strong and going further.

I hope that google will show in future the .mobi results first if you search on google from a mobile device. I think for the moment there are not enough sites online to show .mobi results first. But this could really push .mobi domains.

you are right. Plus i had a really obvious thought last night.
I was thinking when are the .mobi tv ads gonna come out? I thought well they'll come out in the US first, then UK etc That's the way things seem to work.
Then i thought why would the phone networks pay to advertise?
You, me, every businessman, every kid it seems, even Grandma Lily (LOL) has a mobile (cellphone).
They can send free texts like they can advertising topups. They just have to bombard every consumer on the planet with texts letting them know .mobi hype & way forward.
They also just have to say give people 10 mins free airtime or something to surf .mobis etc
It's gonna be so easy for them. You'll be able to access all other tlds of course, but this team seem very sussed, the .mobi team. Unlike the .eu thing which is an ongoing mess.
