Raider, of the 256 domain extensions, show me a non-dotCom extension that accomplished as much as dotMOBI in its first 11 months after entry into market.

I'm not bashing .mobi, like I said it has potential, more so than some other TLD's, I just dont beleive it will come of anything, and I have my reasons for believing that.

When I see the big corps registering .mobi, I look at it as covering your ass in case it takes off...Just how much advertising has Marriott done using marriott.mobi? I entered the domain into a Yahoo search and received 2 results.

Forget protecting their brand. If Disney wanted to protect the brand High School Musical 2, the would have regged HSM2.com. But they did not. The registered and promoted HSM2.mobi on the television.

If Bank of America wanted to simply redirect BofA.mobi to BankofAmerica.com, they would not have spent millions of dollars on in house signage and placards and fliers presenting BofA.mobi to their clients. Nor would they have created an Olympic promotional television spot featuring American Kayaker Brett Hyle and BofA.mobi.

To continue to say it won't work and will not work and is not needed is foolish at best. The members of this forum do not sit on the boards of the Fortune 500, 100, or Fortune 50 companies making marketing decisions. Decisions that are not only based on their current customer demographics but on the simple premise...

what can we do to add service and value to our current customers and how do we attract new customers.

There is no "brand protection". There is branding and marketing and market saturation with those brands. Market saturation involves the literal saturation of all marketing and media options, including the mobile internet.

Is the mobile internet on it's way? No. It is here.

What are people waiting for?

The argument that cell phones can auto detect is true. Why do we need .mobi if this can be done? Try your cell phone on BofA.mobi and BofA.com. Which is easier to navigate? Which is faster to load?

Companies and marketing people know that in order to keep someone's attention and keep them tuned into your site, you have on average 3-5 seconds. After that, your potential customer is gone.

And here's another piece of advice, which I am sure a great many of you are tired of hearing from me by now.

Actually, it is a question.

.mobi works on a PC and a mobile phone. With ease, fast loading, and low bandwidth usage.

Take a look at SDCA.mobi on the PC and your phone.

They couldn't because HSM2.com was regged to someone else dating back to 2003, I'm sure if it was available, .com would of been the TLD of choice. HSM2.mobi was regged by Disney just last month, Teens love to text using their mobile devices and here you have a long name for a popular show, so its not surprising Disney would choose this Acronym.TLD over others.

Seems to be more effort being put to why this and why that.


Why are cell phones outselling PC's and Laptops 4:1? Why are their 3.5 billion cell phones in the world right now?

This is not picking some magic numbers for the powerball. This is 4:1 odds that it will succeed. I like those odds. I like the 3.5 billion cell phones in the world. I hope like hell 2.5 million of them are in teenagers hands.

I think Disney will do just fine without the links showing up. I have a feeling they know about these links linking to each other:

They spend more time on the phone, For Teens, "Texting" is IN and email is out, there was a article about this not long ago, I'll try to find it and post it.

But I also have no doubt that if Disney felt the best way to reach their audience was via HSM2.COM, they would have paid what ever it took to purchase or secure that domain name. Just as I have no doubt that this was a marketing decision by the Disney powers that be to promote and market High School Musical 2 in this manner. Disney no doubt knows who their market demographics are, where they will be, and how best to reach them...through that cell phone in their hands or in their hands or in their backpack. They are literally carrying their computer with them. That is the amazing part of all of this. T

hese cell phones are more than just phones. I recently purchased the Helio Ocean and I am blown away at the technology and capability.

But this isn't just about focusing on one domain, one site, one market. How many links does Baidu.mobi needs when Baidu.com is the largest search engine in China?

Like I say, I like the odds of success with this. The .mobi domain is not a ccTLD, it is not local or regional...its global.

It is young, but I just did a google search for site:mobi
