I have looked for trademarks and can't find any, i could understand a problem if it was olympicgames.com for example but i cannot see any problems with this one. Or am i looking at it the wrong way?

I think you'll find trouble with any domain with the word olympic in it.

"olympic" is one of those words to best avoid anywhere in a domain name; there are some others too, such as "realtor".

In regards to value ... about what you paid in my view ... anyways, try posting it on Afternic's Bazaar with a start price of like $49 and a stop price around $5.

I wouldn't recommend trying to sell it... that proves you registered it in bad faith!

Good point ... deleting it would be the safest option.

If it gets any traffic then try to develop it.

Afternic doesnt allow the entry of domains w ólympic'in them.
1 of mine was removed over a year ago, and I got an email from afternic stating they had to remove all such names because of IOC threats

Hmm i think i stumbled onto a hot one here! I think i will wait til the C&D letter arrives and i will just send it straight over to them. What does the forum think of that idea?

that sounds ok.
Lets put it this way.
The one I own, and which should have expired 2 months ago, but I had auto renew on now gets apx. over 1000 unique hits per day and climbing...
(and I cant do anything with the traffic).
Havent received a C&D letter, but If I do, I will rush the name to them by courier :)

Can't agree completely with this thread.

I have:
http://www.theathensolympics.com

and:
http://www.theolympicgames.info

and no-one has challenged me on these, and I would fight for them if they did, because I believe the Olympic Games is part of human history and human culture.

The first one will pass off quietly because the Athens Games will soon be over. I haven't made very good use of it because I have been short of time this year and I've been developing other domains.

The .info is a long-term project and I intend to develop it as a history of the Olympic tradition etc going right back to the origins of the ancient games. It'll be a non-commercial site and, as the .info TLD suggests, it will be an *information* site.

The IOC does not own every reference to this part of human culture. Also, they had the chance to register the name in Sunrise and didn't. Personally I think they'll just ignore it because the prefix 'The' usually diminishes the significance of a domain name anyway.

I strongly object to people trying to *annex* our everyday language and words that any of us may use. So personally I suggest you hold OlympicMedalists.com and fight (but don't advertise for sale!)

I totally agree with you lionheart, the trademark thing has gone to their heads, but they seem to win every challenge, so i suppose it's icann who could be at fault or maybe the lawyers taking back handers! (I'd like to think so anyway!)

IMHO, the IOC is one of the most corrupt commities on this planet.
They are corrupt people hiding under a corrupt agency.
If a lawyer here could give me some sort of 'ok' that under free speech I can use my domain (which i repeat is now getting over 1200 unique hits a day) I would go ahead and link to the variousl scandals these pathetic people are commiting.
