Can't agree completely with this thread.
I have:
http://www.theathensolympics.com
and:
http://www.theolympicgames.info
and no-one has challenged me on these, and I would fight for them if they did, because I believe the Olympic Games is part of human history and human culture.
The first one will pass off quietly because the Athens Games will soon be over. I haven't made very good use of it because I have been short of time this year and I've been developing other domains.
The .info is a long-term project and I intend to develop it as a history of the Olympic tradition etc going right back to the origins of the ancient games. It'll be a non-commercial site and, as the .info TLD suggests, it will be an *information* site.
The IOC does not own every reference to this part of human culture. Also, they had the chance to register the name in Sunrise and didn't. Personally I think they'll just ignore it because the prefix 'The' usually diminishes the significance of a domain name anyway.
I strongly object to people trying to *annex* our everyday language and words that any of us may use. So personally I suggest you hold OlympicMedalists.com and fight (but don't advertise for sale!)
