So I picked up OnIQ(.)com the other day. Some names just attract me. This one did. I love the fact it's pronounceable and it has 2 words in it On and IQ- a fact I did not realize until after the auction. 'O N' is the abbreviation for my business also. But I was just curious on your thoughts more so then numerical appraisals. Thanks.

I do hope you're kidding!.. I suspect that you are ;-)

Anyway, the resale value of this name is $1K max.
Sometimes owners can get very lucky with 4 letter
.com names, usually because the letters are an
acronym for something, but otherwise the max you
can expect for this name is $1K.

Regards,

Never kidding.

And who said "resale" to bottom-feeding domainers?

Sold an "On*" .com for $23k a while back. This one is better and shorter.

Hmm, so what class of buyer are you referring to
here, I wonder?... And whatever class it is, do
they not fall under the "get very lucky" scenario
that I referred to above?...

Or can 4 letter names, like Oniq.com, be liquidated
for $20K+ any old time of the day?

Apparently, the class of buyer that you have yet to come across. I don't appraise domains based on how much you can trade them on forums.

Now that you mention it, yes, I think I know who
you're referring to... Or, at least, i've heard their
names mentioned in seedy down-town domain name
discussion dens.

They are a crack team of high-level IP investors,
aren't they, a bit like the A Team...

They're wanted by the govt., for overpaying on
domains, so they go 'undercover' for most of the
time.

The one they call 'Hannibal', it has been said,
has been known to go as high as $xxx, xxx on
obscure word .net's!

I just sold waqu.com for $5500USD

Has the dreaded "w", "q" and "u" letters....but sold for well over 1k.

People forget, that those letters can mean something in the asian market.

Something to think about.

Also sold wtru.com for $6000 a while ago.

cheers,
Steve

I don't understand why you are such a doubting Thomas. If one grand were the limit for a LLLL .com we'd still be trading LLL .com domains for a couple of thousand. But thanks for giving me fodder for a new blog post later today.

I'm not a 'doubting' Thomas, really i'm not.

And I, for one, am a great advocate of giving op's end-user
prices in valuation threads. But this needs to be tempered
by reality, and the simple fact is that the owner of Oniq.com
is not able to go out today and sell his domain for $20K or
even anything approaching that figure.

Will he sell for anything close to that in the future? Maybe,
i've no idea. But when we start valuing domains on the basis
of a future event (if so and so company did X, etc..) that
might happen... "well, maybe if X should kinda happen"...
(a circumstance that the owner has no control over) then
all valuations may as well be worthless.

If I didn't trust my gut feeling evaluating a domain prior to acquiring, I would have never achieved sizable sales. Consider my public evaluations a gift or a service ;)
