Only Idiots Reg .MOBI

If it was Rick Schwartz who bought flowers.mobi then that is saying something. Guys like him have the ability now, through their .com profits, to develop a site like this. The other thing that RS said last year is that new domain extensions only have a chance to make it if they start to be seen everywhere in ads, on tv, magazines, etc. So he may be betting that .mobi will be getting a lot of exposure through developped sites to come. And with him it's probably not a bet but a well calculated risk.

All in all the .mobi auction results were positive today. Next week's DNjournal report should be a very interesting read.

As the Jedi mentioned, it wasn't just the Flowers.mobi sale. One huge sale is a fluke, but when you consider who bought it and then look at the other 5 and 6 figure sales...its hard to ignore.

Is this pie you speak of Apple, Pumpkin or something else? Assuming its not blackberry pie, I'd be happy to have a slice :-)

Nav.no was a one-off sale to the Norway government, totally different than the .mobi situation, which in a short time has had dozens of x,xxx, xx,xxx, and now xxx,xxx sales.

btw - 14 users viewing this thread at the moment...wow

Rub it in, GT - you traitor you. :-D

Oh I will eat the humble pie when it's served cold. Apologies to those that deserve one; check your PM box. If you didn't get a PM, keep drinking :-D

No need for a cap-fitting exercise then ...

maybe auction was fake to promote mobi? as that screaming woman at the background sounded like an repeating tape..

i hate .mobi, but at same time i believe that with the right amount of funds you can market even .$hit

Angelx666, How would you like your pie? Warm or Cold?

Yeah, make sure you don't choke on it! LOL
Pred :whoo:

Here's the one thing I find very interesting.

Who the hell thinks they would get 6 figures for flowers.mobi to start with that someone would actually have to pay that to get it ?

Something is extrememly weird here, I am sorry. FFS he could have got a damn TM on it and got it for much less after expenses. The other high .mobi sales were " fair " considering the words but still high imo. 3-4 guys got real lucky that stupidity is present in not only the poor but the rich as well.

Considering ALL the facts that must come into play ( most out of our hands ) these investments are extremely risky. May be profitable in the end but homie dont play that game :greenbigeek:

If he has put 200k cash on the table he will be expecting to get 500k - 1m in a few years for it...
the global flower franchises pay $2 per lead PPC, so my guess it that Flowers.mobi will be fairly easy to develop and make money from!

Let the games begin!

:cell:

not sure ppc is going to mean anything for .mobi.. maybe tho

This auction it is exactly - weird, i dont buy any of it, anybody heard how guy said when selling mobi:

"..mobi, huh, mobile?"

It's a crazy price. If he wanted it that much, he could have approached buyer pre auction & offered $40k & seller would have bit hand off.
something fishy & i'm big fan of .mobi
maybe just big publicity stunt & flowers owner got lucky?
just regged 2 fresh .mobis!
Pred

he said.. mobi... what? mob-i? okay then..

heh

Just Angel to eat her words then. LOL

You are saying Shwartz could have somehow trademarked "flowers" ?
