The .org hurts it.

Osama bin Laden, the man U.S. intelligence officials say is the prime suspect behind the September 11 hijacking attacks, is the head of a shadowy organization

bin Laden formed al Qaeda, an organization

I don't know how many people would want to make a website for this.

I actually owned this name back in October of 2001. Owned it for all of 3 days. Got it through Snapnames, which registered it through NameScout.

NameScout then deleted it:

in question was registered through them, please contact them concerning your
refund. We have refunded their account for this domain.

Sincerely,

Robert Hall

Namescout Corp.

When I contacted NameScout to find out why, they basically took the position that the name would give them a bad reputation. Maybe it was a good thing since I had planned on putting up a site with doctored Osama pictures showing him "in flagrante delicto" with various farm animals.

Good luck with the name!

Thanks for all you comments.

OsamaBinLaden is registered in most popular extensions including .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, .tv, .ws, .co.uk, and de the dash version osama-bin-laden is also heavily taken with many a registration on Sept 11, 2001.

The Overture for "osama bin laden" in Dec 2003 is 84363. This is actually a very popular search term even recently.

I must say that I find domainicanicanica's experience with NameScout sets a very dangerous precedent. When a registrar puts themselves in the position of a censor they set themselves up for liability everytime somebody does not like a name, quite apart of the US first amendment issues regarding the prevention of

shortly after the events of September 11, 2001. Interesting that Snapnames no longer has NameScout as a partner.

Osama is by far the more popular spelling when it comes to search and and websites. Overture, Wordtracker and Google will give the numbers. Nevertheless UsamaBinLaden.net is a decent domain.
