I guess I wanted a more realistic appraisal but had to have the fiirst appraisal from someone who doesn't take it too seriously or doesn't have the experience to give a realistic appraisal according to his past posts. Would have rathered he didn't reply at all.

If you want to leave it up do so, but I just got irritated.

Should my reaction be different when the first appraisal is $40. Or should I just take it in stride that you get what you pay for and in this case its just free advise that should be taken as such?

Cheers!

When you are asking for a realistic value from your peers that is what you will get from this forum. Many of the people who are members of this forum deal in a high volume of domains and deal with thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per domain transactions each year. I man not always like what my names are appraised for but I can be assured that no one has anything to gain or loose by appraising my names or your names. Don't give up, just don't be discouraged if what you think is a great name isn't what you expect. Cheers.

I appreciate your point, I think in a round about way I stated it myself. Another thing I have noticed is that people post to the appraisal requests without ever giving an appraisal, whats that about?

right on.

I'm just curious as to why you would be so upset with a $40 appraisal

What commercial use does the name have?

I don't really think much of a site can be made from AircraftWanted.com in the sense of branding.

So what counts is the traffic 25-30 a day is worth around $25-$100 for "aircraft" traffic if I were to take a guess

Traffic, Brandability,Vanity and Commercial use are the 4 main factors of domains.

Don't forget that.

Not upset - stymied -perplexed- exasperated!

Why would anyone throw out a $40 appraisal.

Targetted traffic is much more valuable at the outset when starting a business and branding can be bought. If aircraft are not a commercial product I don't know what is.

And with the 25-30 uniques a day being worth your quoted $25-$100 a day then what would any business be worth using those numbers? Only $40, Only $50 > $1000?. You made my point for me.

Thanks!

Worry not.. be grateful that folks are reviewing and commenting.. in this forum.. it's tough to get even an "appraisal" good or bad.. from the crowd..

I think your domain has worth.. and is worthy of development.

Goodluck.

dont get discouraged. Appraisal sounds official but it really is just another word for "opinion".

You have to remember that appraising domain names isnt a science or a craft like appraising antiques for which there is an established market and a closely studied history of transactions.

I' can recall posting for appraisal on this board before and it was unanimous that the domain was worthless. It later sold for $2K.

The point of this post is not to impugn the knowledge or the experience of the domainers here, who I believe represent probably the savviest community of domainers around.

The point is to suggest that appraisals are inexact, they are opinions which may or may not be based on much consideration or experience on the part of the poster. Again, not a jab at any specific posts in this or any other thread, simply something to bear in mind.

In my opinion, your domain certainly has commercial development potential. It might be worth $1K or even more to somoeone who intends to develop a site for it.

best of luck!

Don't get too insulted by appraisals...

I had one name that got appraised by someone on another forum for $15..

First time I contacted some end-users about it I had several interested parties in it & sold it for $1100.

Did I ever say that aircrafts arent a commercial product?
I said the actual name has no value. No company will ever brand with a name "Aircraft Wanted". Therefore the only thing that has value is the traffic itself.

Not a day! Ever heard of $1000 CPM
lol
I don't think so.
The total VALUE of the name with that amount of daily stable traffic would be around $25-$100 depending on the value of the traffic and how well it converts.

Get real

Thanks!

I've learned a lot from the appraisals given here. Some of them seem to have been right on the money (i.e., I had a number of bids on ebay for a name that fell right into the range given by the folks here).

Others have been way off the mark ("What were you thinking when you registered that name?" was one of the kinder responses I received when asking for an appraisal on a certain name. I later sold it to a reseller for a quick $500 who, in turn, sold it to an end-user who developed it into a site and now pays $63 per click at Overture for the term that's also the domain name itself.)

But most people here just speak from experience. And most values given are WHOLESALE values.

Best thing to do is to note it and learn from it.

And always remember to differentiate between asking for an honest opinion and asking for something you want to hear.

Cheers.
