Hotmail.com never dropped. This is a rumor that won't die, because it's based on a factual situation that was different.

They let 'passport.com' get put on hold. That affected Hotmail.com. Hopefully that's the last time it'll need to be said.

It didn't drop, as in expire. It was specifically deleted. Hard to look out for that since you don't get a warning.

It didn't get put on hold like most dropping domains, but the nameservers were deleted a few days before it dropped. That caught my eye, but I didn't think there was a chance in Hell it would actually drop, so I didn't put any effort into catching it. Kicking myself now, of course.
