Seems that greed, stupidity, and WLS has hit pool.com.

This should keep the auctions going forever...There's a reason why eBay doesn't do it, it pisses people off.

New auction changes

Effective November 24, 2003 Changes to our Auction Process

After many requests from our customers, we have made the following enhancements to our Auction Process;

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS...We need to make more money before WLS puts us out of business.

Worry-Free Bidding
Our new Bidding Process gives you more time to react to last minute bids. Now when a bid is placed that changes the Auction’s Price during the last 15 minutes, the Closing Time will be increased by 15 minutes from the time the last bid was placed. The Auction Close Time will continue to be extended by 15 minute increments from the time of the last bid.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS...Domains buyers are losers that don't have lives and want to sit in front of their computer screens for hours trying to get a domain and make us mo-money.

Convenient Auction Display
The main Auctions page now conveniently displays only the Current Auctions. Information for Auctions I’ve Won and Auctions I Didn’t Win will be accessible via our new Auctions History link.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS...We had nothing better to do and we heard somewhere that change is always good.

Time to Backorder, Time to Bid
We have moved the initial Closing Time for all .com and .net Auctions back one hour to 16:00 GMT (11:00 EST). This change will ensure our customers have ample time to participate in closing Auctions without interfering with placing backorders.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS...The auction was cutting into our lunch time so we made them earlier.

What? Are they crazy? I bet some auctions will last weeks if not months. And you'll have to stay awake night and day to make sure your high bid has not been topped by a $10.00 increase!!

YOU F**KIN' CANUCKS ARE MORONS! Oops, forgot I'm a canuck. Ok. Let's try this again: YOU F**KIN' CANUCKS AT POOL.COM ARE MORONS! That's better.

Wm,

I have paid your neighbor to send me an email when you turn off your lights at night.

I will then place a bid 1 hour after the lights go off.

Well, maybe a few hundred latters will make them change back!

Remember when NW tried to go to an after-auction model? Overwhelming customer complaints made them change their mind!

Yes cat, let's say that we will all petition Verisign to bring on WLS now unless they stop it.

While we're discussing what ASSHOLES these schmucks up North at Pool are, I'd like to bring up a point for discussion.
I put a name in my Pool account a few weeks ago. Pool got it and it went to auction. The bid never went over $60.00 and it was "red" in my account. In other words, someone else had the first bid or someone else was the bigger customer or ??? THEY DID NOT PAY FOR THE NAME!! Now Pool sends me this: "*********.com was backordered through your account and as per our FAQs and Terms and Conditions, if the winning bidder fails to provide payment for a domain the 2nd highest bidder will automatically be charged." Am I really the second highest bidder being that the price NEVER changed from $60.00?

At least you got an email.

Maybe it was a programming bug. Or maybe it was reserved by a "big" player with favored bulk buying "priviledges".

Whatever it was, we will never know. Nor do I, personally, care to know. This game is deeper than the still waters can reflect.

You just grab what you can yourselves and hope for the best. Failing which, you can always approach the successful drop catcher and negotiate a price which you can hopefully afford.

Which is why I support WLS. WLS helps to cut down the programming shenanigans to a degree, but you need to be ultra hardworking if are to gain a slight edge.

This is obviously a ploy buy pool to allow them to get more $.

As now people can bid and never lose an auction if they have deep pockets.

It was suppose to start on 11-24-03. So, I experimented with the .orgs
dropping this morning.

I was outbid last night. So, I bid at 16 min. left. I became the higher bidder again.

Then, someone outbid me at 2 min. Thinking it would extend the time. NOPE!!

I then made another bid. No change in time left.

And, then the name closed.

So, I guess the 15 minute extension did not apply to .orgs???

I was involved in a .com name that kept being extended this morning
at Pool.

So, the new policy has kicked in.
