Also like nostra and DCG, if you have a name about to expire, send me a PM and I will gladly take it off your shoulders. :)

Most people will ask politely that they want their names back when they first contact you. But if you refuse to give it back, they will start showing their true self such as threatening you about how their domain is trademarked and that it must be retured at once... blab blab blab... Over this year, I have received a lot of these kind of emails. Just ignore them and they will eventually start to send you offers. Then you can kindly write back for something more. I would recommend you to counter at least $1000.

Suprising - I would think that when you pick up a domain up you have put effort into valuing it. I guess some of the catchs are by the seat of your pants but you should place a value on the time and on the domain.

Like all consultants - you are not paying just for the work they do, you are paying for their salary, downtime, office space, laptop, phone, and other things associated with the cost of being a "consultant" (insert "domainer" here).

If you don't get you target $$ of of the domain - why buy it in the firest place??

2 other points:
Just about everyone loses a domain at some point so don;t cray baby over it when it is in your power to keep it.

And - I'd have a hardtime handing over a $1000 bill for reg fees and a trip to Applebee's.

I just got one of these e-mails. I had no way to value the domain, so here was my reply:

Hello,
We don't typically sell domain names but if the domain is important to you, you can offer a purchase price. We will respond only if your offer is accepted. Please make only one offer.

This kind of approach may not be to everyones taste but I'll let you know if it works out.

(BTW, if you're a dnforum member and you just received an e-mail like this, send me a P.M. and I'll cut you a break  )
