Hi, if your site is selling a product or service, why would you put adsense code on it? Won't the adds that appear be promoting competetors' products? Are the adds not based on site content?

Thanks for your replies,

Sharpy

yes, the ads are based on the site content, so you have to decide if you want to make money off the ads, or your products.

You can also filter URLs out. Like if you are selling a product for $4.99, and you see two urls that keep popping up on your site that sell it for $3.99, you can block them out.

It works best for sites that have provide information about a subject, without really selling any products. That way there is no "comp"!

I think it works best on sites with products .. those visitors are ready to buy, and you will get a lot of clicks!

Another question: If you have code from the same account on more than 1 site , is there a way to tell what revenue is coming from what site?

There are 3rd party adsense "trackers" that are supposedly approved by Google ..but be very careful and ask Google adsense before you implement.
Google is suppose to have their own tracker for Adsense "soon"

Another question: Is there anything wrong, in Google's eyes, with the statement I've put over my adsense adds on this site? http://www.sitehike.com

Yes sharpy .. Just looking out for you bud. You definitely want to remove that. It is clearly written out in their TOS .

A suggestion : move "Website Promotion" &"Search Engine Optimization"
are vital to the success of your online business" and place your adsense at that location

Here you go Sharpy ,

Incentives
Web pages may not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites as well as labeling the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements
