For Sale Question concerning drops

Sometimes i find domains that i want and that don't seem to be registered. The names seem to have dropped so i go and try to register them but they say they're already taken. When i do a whois on those same domains it says they're available for registration

Is that normal? It happened to me a couple times and i'm wondering if it's because someone already picked them up or that they'll drop very soon

The whois only updates once a day

A register can register a name instantly

So yes you were beat to it

Check the whois a day later to see who got it
