ok guys, don't shoot me here, but I know there are a many variables for rating a sites value.

I have read over some professional ratings and I know it depends on the genre of the site as well.(sometimes)

When a buyer just wants to buy traffic or exsiting business.

How much is traffic worth?

Does that trumph a site with say a better name?

I read this:

If you are getting 500,000 visitors a month you probably wouldn't want to sell it but if a site is getting 500,000 hits a month, is the traffic alone worth about that much?

also which is better to have search engine traffic or unique hit traffic?

Unique is a unique IP and this can come from "type-in" traffic or SE's. Type-in traffic is ofcourse more valuable.

Short answer: traffic is worth a lot.

IMHO: yes, traffic is worth more than a name.

After all, what's the point of the name? It's to bring in traffic that you convert to sales. For example, a lot of times when one company buys another company, it keeps the customers and stops doing business under the acquired company's name.

For instance, MediaOne was bought by ATT, which sold it's cable business to Comcast. My mediaone.net email worked for a while, then I had to switch to attbi.com, and now I have to switch to comcast.net.
