redirect script

Has anyone had any success with a redirect script? i.e. a user with a long URL like 123456789.com/abcdef can create a short one using your name e.g. mydomain.com/abc

After some searching the best I came across is:
http://www.scripts24.com/iredirector/subdirectory/index.php
but it's a bit buggy... does anyone know a better one??
