I turned it (registar lock) over 24 hours ago and it shows off in my account area but a whois shows it locked. I am trying to tranfer some domains out of that place and am getting held up. Should it take this long?

Don't worry about what WHOIS says, just initiate the transfer. WHOIS can be slow in updating at times.

Sometimes the process is slow.

You can initiate the transer, and if it fails, reinitiate it.

The Internic WHOIS only updates twice daily (for com/net), so it can show locked status, even when it isn't. I would just try it immediately after unlocking.

The transfers keep failing from another GoDaddy as they see the domains still as locked. I submitted a support ticket to Network Solutions on the issue. It has been almost 36 hours now which should have been more then long enough.

It's probably because Go Daddy is quering the Registry's WHOIS. If the WHOIS
of the Registry says the domain name is locked, it'll stay that way until:
1) they receive the update from the current registrar, and 2) they update the
WHOIS database reflecting the change.

Assuming you submitted your ticket to NetSol and it's been 36 hours, chances
are the name is no longer locked. Go to http://registrar.verisign-grs.com/whois,
search the domain in their WHOIS, and look under status to see if it's active.

If it's saying active, restart the transfer. It's a .com, though, right?

If it's not a .com, check the registry of that extension.
