Hi,

I had a snap on a name that was set to expire on 24th of June, the registrant renewed it a few weeks after this date.

I didn't take the snap off the name and on the 11th of September the registrant now reads as Dotster Inc...

Registrar: NAMESDIRECT

I'm sure that Dotster wouldn't have purchased the name off the old owner. The domain now point's a namesdirect holding page.

It just seems strange! What do the experienced members make of this?

I'm no expert, but it looks like the original owner did not renew, but let it expire (it doesn't actually drop until a couple of months after the expiration date). Then, someone with a Namewinner bid got it when it finally did drop, beating out your snap.

Just a guess, maybe others can offer alternate scenarios.

Thanks for that FrontRow.

I think that the owner did renew. The domain had a year added to the expiry date and the nameservers changed back to the custom ones only weeks after the expiry date. I did also forgot to mention...
