...and how much is the average charge by other registrars to give you a registry connection?

Are you referring to this document at http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation-financials.htm?Originally posted by GiantDomains
I don't think it costs 70K, I think you just have to prove that you have 70K in capital. I believe the costs are more like 4K per year for .com/net/org, with a $2500 application fee.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Can you (or someone) please explain how? Where's the benefit?Originally posted by NameCaster
I think this would benefit DNF and all of its users if planned carefully.

No offense, but I tend to see this more as natural vertical integration, very much like the auction and chat as horizontal expansion. Just my two cents.Originally posted by WebCat
I paid good money to join a domain name forum, not a registrar. Is there something wrong with the way DNF works now?
Aside from my "competition" concerns noted above, I would have concerns about the development of a full-featured domain management system to accompany being "the registrar". So many registrars out there have bad interfaces still. I would really feel odd if snapping names meant being forced to deal with a long "hey we're new" level of registrar services. I'm happy the auction is getting back on track, but being a registrar sounds like an even BIGGER commitment of support for post drop situations and technical issues.Originally posted by DotComGod

While I might agree, it sounds like the community would probably be served better by a bidding environment like NW. Multiple chances at participation. One would however need to deal with the "fraud" issues, but the membership system would come in handy for that.Originally posted by RMF
For it to benefit all members, it would have to be setup like snapnames, or dropwizard, where only one "snap" per domain exists. Otherwise, only the members with deep pockets benefit.
