I just got a letter from an attorney suggesting that I go after a domain owner that has a name similar to mine.

For a fee of only $5k to start!

What a way to make a living!

If you are seeing a spike in attorney C&D activity, this may be the reason.

That is pathetic and disconcerting at the same time.

sounds like a lucrative new business. I'm not an attorney, but for $50 paypal i will go after anyone who has a similar domain to yours and try to get it for you

with law related domains he may be interested in buying. :)

C'mon, post his/her name. That lawyer is an as-hole, and we should all know about him/her.

I would very much like to have a copy of that letter. Would it be possible for you to contact me privately and send me a fax?

Depending on the circumstances, the solicitation you received may be illegal.

Thank you.

I just got one today myself.

I read this thread earlier - now I just got home and in the mail was the same letter as described above.

Just to let everyone know - it is from Turner, Green, Afrasiabi & Arledge LLP

www.turnergreen.com

This is totally unethical in my opinion.

(same fee of $5,000)

theoretically speaking, it could be someone trying to smear the name of TurnerGreen. Like if I put in a fake email header that said i was [email protected] in order to spam people with Microsoft products (thereby angering the people towards microsoft).

Dragon - the letter is a real letter with their letterhead on it - if someone was trying to smear them - they went to a lot of trouble as the document is professionally prepared.

A simple guy could not get any gals out on date. He went to a pal
and asked for suggestion. Friend said "Go to a bar and pretend to be a lawyer. You will get the best girl". So he went to the best bar and pretended to be a lawyer. And sure enough very soon he took the best girl home .....
Once in the bed with her, he started laughing heartily. She asked what was so funny ? He replied " I have been a lawyer for few hours only and I am already screwing someone".
Moral of the story : Lawyers always want to screw somebody .

Not a good sign. What they all tell us at Uni, lawyers are the scums of the earth.
