offcourse SEO is not a one-time fix. After doing all SEO perfectly still search engines don't recognize you, it is the nature of search engines. Understanding the search engines of this age is going to be very tough for all the SEOs

Also, you need to constantly update you site or else it will get drowned out with all of the more "current" sites (even if it is the same information).

You can be #1 one day and on page 20 the next.
