sex.com...

The holy grail of domain names.

What valuation would you place on the name and how do you come to that valuation?

I will be providing grades on a normal curve, and I will PAY PAL $5 to the best rationale in valuation / ultimate valuation given as decided by me.

A = Exceptional
B = Good
C = Average
D = Below Average
F = Fail

The name alone, I would say is worth $65 million, as that is what was ruled the rightful owner should be awarded by the domain crook who hijacked the the name and built the sex.com empire all those years ago.

I'd say the domain alone is worth at least $34 million. However the site design sucks and could be getting a lot better usage than a PPC engine IMHO. Let's see some hardcore graphics when I come to the site j/k. On a moral scale this domain rates $0

Anyone who'd rather stick to their 'morals' than make millions. Hmmm. I don't think they'd be too many of those about!

At the very least, someone who wishes to remain moralistic could use the name to fund tons of charities, scientific research or whatever. If I owned the name myself, I'd pocket millions, but I'd give millions away too.

Let's just say that The Internet can just survive for 10 years, $200 millions * 10 years = $2 billions.

If The Internet can survive more than 10 years, new owner can make $200 millions a year.

$5,000,000

Here's why:
Most would think that it could only be used in the adult market, I would think the Medical profession, the women's Lingerie business, the perfume business and the drug (viagra etc.) business could use this name.

I would say more than $5mil but it would be tough to get a major TV corporation to run ads for SEX.com, I don't think they would risk the negative feedback. Although HBO would have no problem with it. (ABC NBC CBS......I think they'd be conservitive)

The sex industry is huge, but most of the Big Wigs in that industry already have established names....PlayBoy, Hustler, etc.

My guess is that the adult video business or someone in the condum business would be the first to knock on your door. They generate alot of income and would be able to fork out the $5mil.

Back when DOT COM's were going ballistic, I'd say $50mil, but those days are long gone.

I'm guessing SEX.com gets alot of traffic, but I'd be interested in how many visitors RETURN to the site, that I think is a good indicator.

I'd say the name is worth at least $500,000,000.

Mainly because I think it makes about 65 mil a year. So if you paid 5 years income for it and threw in some vanity money, it would cost about 500 mill. Might be worth more.

The biggest reasons its worth so much, beyond what it produces in income, or perhaps why it produces so much income, is because it is sex and .com. It has the dual traffic of being a .com and being sex. Sex is why the species exist and is desired often and .com is the most well known extension on the internet. Oh yeah, and it is short.

Definitely the single most valuable domain name there is imo.
