It is about damn time.
I take part in a weekly Google Hangout, and I am sorry to say that even after a year+ of doing it, the whole process is still a mystery to me. It is just too damned complicated.
I have been trying to get my elderly parents on a hangout with my family in Michigan and my sister's family in California. There is always someone who isn't seeing what the others are.
On this, Skype has got it right. Keep it simple, stupid.

Everyone just needs to get a mac, ipad or iphone. 
I've been able to avoid google hangout and skype for solo/group calls/video chat using Factime & iChat for years!
