for those typos: revenue for 1.5 years minus the reg fees for 2 years , thats your value..so...whats the traffic they are getting exactly?

Many people misunderstand the meaning of TYPO. For instance, SPIRALFRON.COM is NOT really a typo of spiralfrog.com. Others like SPIRAMFROG.COM are VERY unlikely to be mistyped, making them of little value due to low (if not no) traffic. Good luck anyway.

what is a typo for spiralfrog???
Typos are mistyped character strings (sequences) that are resulted from ... TYPING.

1. A, S, D, F, as well as J, K, L (and ";") are less likely to be mistyped, because they are where your fingers rest; even more so with D, F and J, K because your index and middle fingers are more sensitive than the other 2.

2. So the usual typos are coming from those letters on the upper and lower rows. Take SPIRALFROG as an example, P, I, R are easier victims. HOWEVER ...

3. When people mistype, they will SEE it on screen with their eyes (and therefore correct the error before going ahead). So we also have to take into consideration those letters which LOOKS less distinguishably different. For instance, I and U are relatively less distinguishable than O and I.

Accordingly, SPIRALFRON.COM is NOT a typo of SPIRALFROG.COM because VERY FEW would mistype G as N (they come from different HANDS, and the keys are not close enough). SPRIALFROG.COM on the other hand is a more likely candidate (though of a different category of typo) because RI and IAL are common character strings in English.

Hope this clarifies a bit. ;)

You say these names make £86 per month at Sedo?

What is the real site - spiralDog or Frog?

Very interesting. I hadn't thought about this from a touch typing perspective yet.

Regarding A's, I thought I had observed that they are more frequently omitted than many other characters - (maybe because they occur fairly frequently and therefore might result in mechanically worn out keys, in addition to the the possibility that people might accidentally hit caps lock rather than a, without consequences for dns).

Anyway, my experience supports that a few idiosyncratic "thinkos", where they exist, occur far more frequently than true mechanical coordination mishaps.

Apart from that, it seems to me people are far more likely to omit a character rather than hit a neighbouring one. Even permutations, particularly of some pairs like ie/ei seem to happen more often than hitting some faraway key.

I'll look at my data again with touch typing in mind. I reckon a lot depends on your audience.
