This have happened to me like 3 times.

I offer say, 500.00 to a guy, he reply like 4,000.
I then offer 1,500.00, he cancel my offer.
Two months later he receive a $100 offer and put the domain in auction.
I missed the auction endline and the name ends sold in $400.00

Another similar situation happened later. It was a domain I was not interested anymore so let it pass and it was sold under the amount I once offered.

Today again. After I offer $900.00 some months ago, now he put domain in auction for $200.00  ... OMG...
But this time, I won't miss the auction! :upset:

I understand your point but I understand the other side too. Some people just want to have their domain go to auction. They think the market will determine it to be worth more than the first offer. Of course they probably feel stupid when this doesn't work out. But I don't think it's that strange to want to see what will happen at auction. The downside is a few hundred dollars, the potential upside is thousands.

This is so typical, many domain owners out there believe there domains are worth far more than what there really worth, when the owner received your Sedo offer of $1500, he was insulted and did the "I'm going to show him!" and canceled the transaction, not realizing the offer was a good one and that he the seller has NO way of contacting you later.

Your offer made him think the domain was worth $$$$, so he puts it up for auction beleiving that and loses his shirt.

Why did you not contact him by email using his whois email address?

Tha is what make it worst. I did it. I told him I was going to try to gather a little more to make him a better offer, but then I never was back, I didn't really want to pay more than what I already offered him.

When he received the lowball $100.00, if he was urged for money had to be to contact me back and take my last offer !!, but he didn't !
How could he think the $100.00 guy would beat me with my $1,500 ?

In that case, I would have to agree with your title.

This is not only happened to newbie but oldbie also.

"Being greedy" is the key word here.

How many times did you refuse an offer and later sell at a lower price?

Newbie?

Moron sounds more like it...when you counter a sellers 4k with a $1500...after a 500 opening bid...It shows the seller you are serious about buying the name...it would be moronic to cancel the negotiation at this point...even if he did not want to go too far below 4k...and if he did not want to go below 4k....he should have countered higher initially.

I think there are just some people who are morons... and I would not want to give all newbies a bad name...I have had some really good experiences with newbies.

I think this is a result of Sedo's auction format... It seems strange to me that you can send a domain to auction after getting an offer, really that is not fair to the person that made that initial offer. Obviously I understand that fair has nothing to do with anything in this business (A lot of times anyway) ...

You would think that Sedo might want to have a process in place where they would evaluate the offers and then determine if the domain should be sold at that price or if it should go to auction. Nothing would be binding to the domain owner, they could make their own decision in the end, but a little professional advice might go a long way in a lot of cases.

Also, Sedo could stand to make more money in these cases, at least they would have a solid number that they could rely on, anyway... Win-Win, I think...
