Both 1&1 and Godaddy have recently reported a jump in .us registrations.

Is this because there is such low available good .com's to reg, that people are now turning to other extensions?

If I lived in the US I'd have been regging .us names years ago, I think they have good potential especially with a population over 300 million.

I really dislike .us I can never really see it taking off, it's like .com's little brother.

What about end user's though? Say you have a small to medium business in the US, you mostly deal in the US, your not going to get a good .com at reg fee anymore, you don't want to pay hundreds or thousands in the aftermarket, and you can hand reg a good .us for under $10. I think a .us would look great on a US business. But your right in that this cctld hasn't taken off like those in many other countries, like Germany, UK and Canada.

I try to think more like an end user and not purely as a domainer. For example, I used to hate the dash, but when I see many companies using websites with dashes, I'll invest in similar names with dashes, like L-L or L-L-L.

Any other opinions on .us out there?

You can check the lowdown section at dnjournal.com, they posted about it there.

http://dnjournal.com/lowdown.htm

doesn't look like they give any specific stats - just saying regs are picking up strongly.

Yea, .us sucks, don't reg any. You should keep on reging qyzk.com, q-x-j.com and myauntanduncle.mobi names.

Agree and the reason it has not taken off like many other cctld's is because of the popularity of .com in the US. If you can land a great .us for a great price for use of the sale of US products/services, why would'nt you except for a maybe a dumb bias :)
