but they don't.. serious buyers are hardly going to tell a seller what their domain is really worth.

Appraisals are usually carried out by newbies who have no clue what a domain is worth, or by an automated software package that has no clue what a domain is really worth. So my point is, scrap domain appraisals.. if you don't know what your domain is worth then tough luck, folks who do know what it's worth will buy it from you for a bargain. If you sell it then you obviously thought it was a good deal, so winners all round.

I've seen a few appraisals in here that appeared to be right on the money, but, for the most part you are right. I've also seen too many that appear to be low ball and apparently just in the hopes of buying it cheap.
