are you serious how come I didnt get a notice... these guys are getting greedy... guess not making enough snagging top domains and auctioning em off for big $$$ need to squeeze more...

No notice here either - not yet anyways. Still cheaper than others, but getting to be double of some others for those bottom-end domains that we take chances on.

oh well... just disappointed ... they just raised the price not long ago... I guess these guys don't have windows in their offices and can't see what is happening in the outside world. maybe its time to buy gold instead of TBR domains LOL

Funny

Would you guys choose Pool or MyID for a domain to be auctioned at and why ?

I have a HUGE keyword that should see big 5 figs ( trust me I know what it takes and have done it in .ca a dozen times as you all know ). Question is MyID or Pool ?

Pool because their employees mask as bidders to drive the price up. I kid I kid.

What's the big deal? $35 instead of $25 ...surely most of the names that get picked up are worth at least $35. If they are only worth $10...then you shouldn't be backordering them.

Speak for yourself.

Some have no problem getting domains at regfee to $25 and have them earn double that or more. Now multiple that a hundred or a thousand times over and see why some domainers chase domains on the low end. $10 more per eats into profits and could be hundreds of dollars at the end of a year more in fees. Of course some domains on the low-end do nothing and it's much better to have gotten those for $25 vs $35 or $60 US as elsewhere.

And as stewie mentioned - the markets are down everywhere, and they are bucking the trend elsewhere in the wider-world at present by raising prices during a downturn.

Add in the general downturn in PPC/PPA markets for both parking and developers and it makes for a double-whammy.

Oh and before I forget - that's also $10 more PLUS tax - we live in Taxland after all.

I kinda agree Roy. I guess what i'm saying is...people who backorder these names on sibername are backordering at pool also..or other registrars with higher costs. Sibername is cheap right now...i will take $35 Canadian ..over $60 U.S. at pool any day.

The advantage of pool is that they don't auction a large number of good .ca's all at the same time so there are more interested eyes only seeing your domain. That's not to take away from myid, but just an observation..

MyID, they are auctioning off a lot of other names at the same time.

Pool will only auction your name in a given week..and they will make sure to email everyone on the mailing list about 10 times that week to remind them. I think this is your best bet personally.

It was my understanding that Pool was only doing auctions that have 0 reserve.
Has that changed?

not even sure if MyID is even holding anymore auction all is quiet again LOL

I like Pool ...they seem to have more action, but I would not auction a top domain with no reserve... too risky

Good Luck

Well if Pool is best but a no reserve auction that would hold me back. We'll see, may do it before xmas :)

I thought it was interesting that in this economy Siber feels they can make a raise like that, I don't think they would do it if they thought it would affect business. Just shows how the domain market is holding up. Most people will still pay the 35 to get names they want, and Siber is good at getting TBR names. They got some for me this year at the minimum 15$ and then 25$. And the better domains will have multiple bidders anyway, pushing the price beyond 35$ in the post tbr auction. I might be more picky about which names I put in for now, but I see the names I'm trying to get as having more value than the min tbr bid anyway.

The domain auction at TRAFFIC this week in Australia will give a good indication of where the domain market is at - Rick Latona has some pretty good names on offer.

JP, look forward to seeing what domain you will auction - a huge keyword you say?

is it possible to catch expiring .ca's by hand rather than through backordering services?

No they are only available to certified registrars through an api at drop
