  • I've been trying to start a tech site but can't settle on a name.
  • I prefer .com & may consider .net if name is good enough.
  • I actually prefer it's not a literal name, just has to be awesome and brandable or loosely related to my subject matter.
  • You don't have to own it. I'll pay a finders fee if I buy it. That includes if it's untaken, parked, or dead and I can manage to buy it from them.
  • Think outside the box. Great names are: Mashable, Apple, boingboing, Digg, google, yahoo, readwriteweb, kotaku, etc.,
  • Topics include: Technology news, geek stuff, modding projects, science, engineering, silicon valley, venture capital, new tech businesses, life tips, tech predictions,
  • Doesn't matter if it has traffic or history.
  • Looking for low $xxx to low $xxxx (price is negotiable depending upon awesomeness)
  • Try to avoid names with "tech" in them.
[update 10/8/11:
Finally with school and I'm back on the hunt. I appreciate your help so far and I used none of the untaken names submitted to me. (didn't want you all to think I took a name and ran ;))

I'm doubling my price range.

ooh, nice name there! however I think is has too much of a web development feel about it which is a far throw from the content I want to put up.

I know it's really broad. I've spent 2 years thinking about this. I bought and didn't use two other websites before deciding to try and reach out to some sellers. I'm at the point where I might even try a branding company. I'm definitely looking for something that implies technology or web focused blog in the title, but it doesn't have to actually say it explicitly. Also words that can be used as multiple parts of speech are really great!

Eg.
mashable - implies mash-ups, a blog about internet things that fit in the mash-up category means they would be mash-able. etc. Great branding here!
Techcrunch - reminds me of techdigest but better. Crunch makes me things of breakfast, or a daily dose of tech information.
Gizmodo & engadget - All about gizmo's and gadgets. These sites both go to show that ANY name can be brandable if the content is fantastic, but they are also simply good names.
lifehacker - I envy this name so much.

I'm too tired to think of more at the moment. I'm just really looking for some creative branding potential with the name.
It doesn't even have to be a real name either. Some of the coolest website names are either made up or based on a foreign world.

I can offer the following name for your consideration.

Registered at GoDaddy. Free Push.

PM for prices or to make offers. Offers are Welcome.

Because so few people respond to offers, I will continue to market the name to others unless I hear from you that you wish to buy.

GeekDeli [dot] com
reg. 2007-08-07
exp. 2011-08-07

Name is sort of a take-off on "Greek-Deli" and it conjures up the idea of a wide assortment of things on the "menu" for geeks and techies.

It is short and obviously very brandable and easy to remember.

Assume no PR. You can verify age at http://whois.domaintools.com/

Accepting PayPal from verified PayPal account balance or buyer pays escrow fees at Escrow.com.

I look forward to your reply via PM.

Best,

Victoria

Thanks guys, I'm making a list of potentials. I only want to spend a big chunk of change once if you know what I mean :)

I still haven't found one that screams "must have" yet (though I've found about 3 potentials) so keep 'em coming!

---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 PM ----------

I've also been looking at crunchable.com but it's out of my price range. Do you guys think that's highly brandable or will it be looked upon as the inferior knockoff? (to techcrunch.com and Mashable.com)

Bitmesh(.)com - aged and highly brandable. The .net is also included. PM if interested. Thanks.

Crunchable.com does sound like a cheap imitation of TechCrunch and Mashable. Almost a complete knockoff IMO. It is all about the content, but the niche you will be targeting is familiar with both of those sites.
