SL takes a lot of your lifetime and makes people neglect their first life.

In addition to Second Life a couple other virtual worlds that people invest in and make real money from are EntropiaUniverse.com and Weblo.com.

There's a very interesting book called Second Lives, by Tim Guest. In one chapter he tells how a couple of people made a (real) fortune exploiting a loophole they accidently discovered which allowed them to duplicate products at no cost. It was like the goose that laid the golden egg - they just kept making new products after they'd sold all their stock. Can't recall what the product was, but I think it was an item of furniture second lifers buy for their virtual homes. :)

I tried to figure out stuff once, but really didn't have enough time. Big corporations & Individuals are pumping money everyday into it. Not 100% sure, but I've heard that some have made million $s real-life money from second-life.

If you think it's for you, go ahead. It's a waste of "real-time", imho, well unless you can get the real-life $$$$$$$s in return. Keep us posted how it goes for you! :eek:k:

While it does take time it can make you money. I make very real 'real life' money from L's running a successful virtual real estate company and renting homes and lands to the local denizens. Time ot run it? No more now then minutes a day. Time to set up up? Well it was snowing when I started and finished but I am pretty sure there was some warm weather in between ;)

Installed it.
Realised I had to give up my First Life or Domaining to get into it.
Uninstalled it.

For some reason, I just didnt like the idea of it. I wont be kicking myself if it does take off though.

Thanks for the responses

since the start of this thread, quite a few companies have put money into SL.

but the consistent response from all is that, it takes time

time is too short, yet we never know how much time we got left

:)

I finally tried it last week. It's neat to play around with and talk with people. However....

1st time: sucked away about 4-7 hours of my time which flew by fast.
Saturday: sucked away about 4 hours and didn't feel like much time.

I uninstalled it. Not recommended for people who have better things to do and like to go to bed at a decent hour.

I don't think everyone has an addictive personality. Anything you do in life...if you enjoy it...it will take up a lot of your time. If that enjoyment is not resulting into $$$ , then you should monitor how much of your time it takes up.

My 2 and a half cents :)

I took great pleasure reading this article declaring The End of Second Life, and the comments that followed it. If you saw the concept of Second Life as a "business model" a while back and peed your pants laughing, you'll find it equally entertaining.

Nothing is recession proof, but barber shops and greed.
