Well, you DID ask.

Yeah, I DID.

Baron,

Cartoonz is extemely knowledgeable about the drop business.

But, he very rarely passes any information along except sarcasm.

baron,

I agree, most of what your saying is made up or incorrect.

I must agree with Cartoonz.

He owns a drop service and has a partnership with a registrar..
I think he knows what he's talking about.

And I do not know alot about dropping names, I try to catch them daily, but not fanatical about it.. And I know some of what your saying is wrong or impractical.

Sorry.

actnow,

Thanks for trying to lessen the sting of his retort.

I was merely giving an OPINION as to how BuyDomains.com might be able to afford carrying the annual renewal costs on 175,000+ names, even at let's say $6.00 a pop: $1.05 MILLION!

I receive the BD newsletter (Many of my names were registered at and are still parked at BD!) which reveals that approx. 25-40 names--on average--are being sold each month. And these are not the $10-25,000. names! BD is in it for the long haul! They know that the booming era of substantial numbers of decent drops that we are now in will eventually dry up. Look at Mohno's daily NW list. There were 53,000 drops just a few days ago and how many names were grabbed or were registered after the drop. 500, 1,000, 2,500? The rest were dross! BD is counting on it drying up!

somewhat true I have to say

I think that maybe once a drop grabber gets hot, especially one that doesn't charge much, then the morons find it and fill it up with worthless domains.

So maybe GoDaddy and Enom are getting domains still, but they are getting such trash that no one other than the people buying the trash care. Snap has that issue to some degree as well, I think.

For those systems, without bidding, a worthless domain is the same value as a million dollar domain, so it doesn't matter to them.

This might not be the case, but it seems likely.

lol, no prob. You did ask..

And I have to disagree with you yet again, how do you KNOW BD is selling only 40 names per month?

I guess it is possible, but this would make thier costs MUCH higher, in fact they couldnt b in it for the long run, since they would be losing alot of business...

Registrar connections cost alot of money, BD has 10+. They pay out alot. Thier renewal costs are just a part of thier costs!

Not to mention staff, and servers.. etc.

And, there two locations are prime office space.

Baltimore, Md (Inner Harbor) and Washington, DC (Wisconsin Ave.)

Actnow, what?

The registry is in Virginia...

Well, we got New York, Washington DC, baltimore and Virginia.

Anymore too add? :D

I am pretty sure its in Virginia.
I think I will rent the stall beside the registry's server and try and catch names :D Someone tell me the location so I can acomplish this! lol

You're absolutely right! BD has very deep pockets, that's for sure. I wonder how much they spend daily, on average, at NW and other catchers? HotModels.com was almost $10. K, Every.com was just over $10. K, etc., etc.

Go to their site, near bottom, left side, and click "Domain News." Click a date (Jun. 30, Jun. 16, etc.) and find the section "Premium Domains." It's all there for everyone to see!

BuyDomains.com
(corporate office)
4936 Fairmont Avenue
Suite 200
Bethesda, MD 20814

(brokerage & buying)
4200 Wisconsin Ave NW
Washington, DC 20016

And, the two offices are about 3 miles apart.

And, BuyDomains use to have an office in Baltimore. But, I don't see the address listed any longer.

Verisign and NSI are in northern Va. near Dulles airport.

Verisign and BuyDomains are a 1/2 hr drive apart. And, during rush hour - 1 1/2 hrs apart.

As I said at the beginning of this thread, ""snapper"...hmm, I believe that's a fish."

yeah
i think BD should release a public snap
BD jacked my snap on snapnames

That kinda kills the purpose. There would be no reason for them to.
