Since there're so many threads full of all this excitement of those embracing and regging .mobi in droves, there was definitely a soring need for a "feel good" thread for those who decided to stay away.

Ever wonder though, what could be the reasons and need for "venting" like this??? I mean if I really don't care about something I just ignore it and don't feel like saying a single word about it.....let alone "venting" and denouncing something in its infacy with such a unison emotionality. Hmmmm....this coming from a shrink should make you wonder too....

This extension would provide the domainer community with alot of new typo extensions.

I am wondering how many people actually will type in .mobi. I never type .info or .biz.

Of course these companies are on board. Who makes the profit each time anyone access' one of these domains.

The only good thing I see is if it actually spurs more people in the US to view mobile content. I think this was the biggest reason to make the extension.

Ericsson, GSM Association, Google, Hutchison, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, Telefonica Moviles, Telecom Italia, T-Mobile and Vodafone are all aboard the .mobi bandwagon.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this extension!

Adding new extensions is ICANNs way of typo-squatting. They can sell millions of names under new extensions simply based on the success of the same name with existing extensions.

i see icann as an "ipo generator or stock creator".

they add a "new stock or domain extention" to the market, and domainers and companies buy shares of that extension/stock.
some get premium stocks others get junk bonds!

but it's all done in anticipation and speculation of the market or tm protection.

imo...

Oh well, so much for discipline... I had to peek at what was still available in .mobi & ended up with 10 names. Don't know what happened. I wasn't even drinking.

Go .mobi !

Now, this might be the way to go ....trying to feel good with juvenile jocularity is much better than doing so under the pretense of making a serious argument against the future of a newborn extension....:lie:

LOL - either that or he's making fun of your banana drama :becky:

:caked:

:typing: ...Dear Ann Landers,

I have a friend who just spent a ton of money on .mobi and defends it's very existance based on absolutely nothing. What should I tell him when he asks for an appraisal or blabbers on about how great it is and will become ?

Dear JP,

It looks asthough the real issue isn't the .mobi debate but rather the size of your banana.

I agreed mobi is a non-starter for the very reason stated by 007. My thought on the why is that ICANN is trying to dilute the dominance of com by creating alternative venues (yeah, and good luck with that...)

Hanging around on forums without any vested interest...?? Just for fun? ...IMO, that would quite easily qualify one for being at least half lunatic...wouldn't it?
Having a vested interest in something (oldies like .com & .net), doesn't have to automatically turn into shooting every newcomer down.....and, this is quite the sort of thing many of us have witnessed over the last 5+ years, whether it be .info, .biz, .us, .in, .eu, and now .mobi..... BUT, there's hope as there have been some convesrions and change of hearts lately regarding some of these extensions (.info and .us)....so a day may come when there'd be softening of verbal assaults towards today's newborns such as .mobi. Amen.....

I see your point, believe strongly the .info is a great extension ( reseller/end user sales show this ).

The only issue I take with your reply is the fact you overlooked my question was concerning a vested interest in the .MOBI, it was not a broad all extension encompassing statement. The " half lunatic " would be the one who reads what they want and replies based on a defense mechanism ( perhaps nature ) as oppose to the facts. Perhaps knowing the refrence was concerning .mobi only, yet still deciding to act as if it included all invested interest and add suttle jabs in defense. Has your investment in .mobi now clouded your ability to be rational in discussion ?
