Legal Aspect
The other and more improtant aspect to be considered over here is IP (Intellectual Property rights) .
Most of the major companies, may or may not have their offices in certain geographies but they would still buy the cc tld, gtld domains of their brand name to save abuse of their brand.
Because if they dont buy the domains themselves, a domainer would and then park it. What happens then, on the page you have advertisements of the concerned company as well its competitors. So the company has spent millions in building their brand, people come and search for it and they find competitors adds on that domain. Do you think a company would like that.
I work for a major PLC , and we spend millions every year on branding, even if we dont have a .mobi site, do you think I would not buy my company.mobi
just to eliminate competitors exposure on my domain.
hence most companies irrelevant of the fact of using the domain or not, will buy the domain, which is the case with Pred's domain thistel.mobi
Marketing/PPC
The companies pay the price of not owning their own domain in the form of PPC. They end up paying for PPC adds on domains which should be ideally their own. They dont relaise their spend is going towards domains which they should actually own as they deal with PPc companies SEdo/DS/Google etc and have no idea of the actual domain name where the traffic is coming from.
So thats another reason why it is advisable to own your comapnyname.mobi as well.
In the corporate world, one does not care if the company name would go with a .mobi or .travel tld, the stakes of loosing your brand to someone else are way to high.
Search Engine:
If the world is moving towards new tld, so do the corporates. Also consider this, lets say all SEs start giving preference to .mobi websites when searched from the phone...what will the corporate company do then , if they dont have the domain?
Pay $$$xx xx xx to the domainer and buy the domain of him or just buy it now for $78 and save all the legal fees, escrow fees, etc etc and ofcurse most important TIME required ot acquire a domain.
I can sight many more reasons for you but I guess this gives you a decent picture of why Pred's domain is more valuable than you think. Thats also one more reason I dint appraise the domain. These domains, you cant put a price on them, ofcourse logically you can, but when it comes to multinational company domains, there is no logic to the price, its the need of the moment which decides the price.
