This is a question that would vary from person to person. It all depends on the niche of your website or article. For instance, if you run a website about "web design" it will be a lot tougher to drive a few thousand visitors to your website versus having a website/article on "how to choose a website designer/prgrammer". The key to large amounts of traffic and/or lots of backlinks are unique niche titles. I have a blog and wrote an article comparing three local casinos in the tri-state area. I listed the article on about 5-6 social bookmarking websites and now receive about 35-40 visitors a day! It is all about niche and unique keywords!

Also, in addition, I wrote that article about 2 months ago and still get constant traffic for it.
