Well, its quite obvious that there are some amongst us to whom if you even grant a complete unfethered access in the very first hour on the very first day of a TLD's roll out, they'd still somehow choose to reg names that would make one feel like screaming. I guess these are the folks who simply have to make their own mistakes and learn their own lessons, if at all. So, when it comes to insane regs you can find them even in the first 1000 names that are taken upon a registry opening its doors. Heck, why talk about novice domainers, look at the work done by the registry experts in selecting names for the premium (mobi) list.

Looks like after the losses incurred in the traditional ascii markets, people are trying and hoping that .mobi will help them reclaim their losses.

Losses in the ascii market? You obviously meant to say, "IDN market". The basic ASCII set (of which Latin is a subset) is the King of the market. That won't change, no matter how hard you try to pimp IDN chickenscratch.

Yes, losses in the ASCII market. When the overall market falls, when PPC falls (see Sedo thread), everyone including the King is affected.

IDNs are also affected by market sentiments, the only difference is, for IDNs, the cost of acquisition is low $7, and the .COMs get traffic (forget about the .info and .biz, idns or asciis, or whatever), so many people just wait out.

It is like back to the good old days of 1995, when people registered names and then get traffic.

I don't know about you but I am not in this market for the traffic. I flip domains and my banana republic is growing like crazy.

i tried flipping late last year, caught a few names by tdname for couple hundreds, sold for a few thousands, too time intensive, so gave up.
