Anyone going to the TRAFFIC show in early June? Attendance is supposed to be high and some well known domainers are supposed to be there, including possibly Yun Ye.

There will be a .ca auction on the second day, and the main auction on the last day, did anyone get some names into the auctions?

I'm thinking it will be a great show. It would be nice if CIRA announced at the show that the .ca extension will become open to anyone to register, but it's unlikely. Many people at the show won't be able to bid at the .ca auction because of residence restrictions. Over time I'm thinking it's good to open up the country code domains, the ones that already are open don't seem to be hurt by it.

I have some domains in. Looking forward to it and hoping events like this helps bring more exposure to the .ca marketplace.

If you don't mind would you post them? I sent a few but never got a reply, probably not good enough.

I would like to but from what I understand we can't until they publish the list and then it's good to promote it. My names are only good if they sell and for a good price (lol) ... You've got some good names from what I have seen so you should send a few of your best ones with a fair reserve and go from there. How did you submit them?

You know...I live in the Vancouver area and I find the cost too prohibitive. I thought the cost was around 300-400 but $800 is ridiculous IMHO and $1300 is way over the top for the entire package. I know there are benefits to going and it is all deductible (portion anyways) but I am disappointed in the price point. Certainly if anyone want to meet up, I would love to do that outside the conference.

Elliot's blog blooged about a price decrease and this press release from the Rick Latona website confirms it, but if you click on the Registration and Pricing page, it still shows the higher prices. I'd shoot them an email to see which is correct.

BTW, just got back from Vancouver and it's a great town

I have a bunch that were approved but they are asking me to turn off privacy so they can verify the domain ownership, but it seems as though I can only do this through cira for my entire registrant, meaning all of my .ca names, is that correct? I do not want to do that...

Does anyone know any way to turn off privacy only on specific .ca names?

Thanks!

I don't think that is an option with CIRA or registrars....all or nothing I believe

If you wanted I guess you could create a new account and registrant number and do a change of registrant to that account and turn off the privacy for the names you moved to the "new" registrant. It would cost you the change of registrant fee but it does extend it for another year as well. Might be a possible workaround...

They have informed me that s screenshots for each name showing the registrant details will be sufficient, so that is what I will do...

What we were doing is having people add an extra name server setting as proof of control, but since we could already check ownership directly, no one needed to do it.

What level of reserves did you set as compared to something like the estibot values?

The domains I submitted are going in with no reserve and a minimum bid of $400...

I will also be attending. I have waited a long, long time for the TRAFFIC Conference to come to Canada. The speaker list is growing and it will be a fun, fun time.

Okay, that makes sense then, since Toby wrote something about what range they were trying to hit. If there are plenty of no reserve domains we might see quite a few sales, but I am concerned about ensuring high end-user prices, so I want to see fewer, higher value sales in the .ca auction. I guess since this is a new avenue for everyone it makes sense to start low and see if prices improve over time.

How many do you have entered then?

Sure wish I could be there. The price of admission is certainly worth the price for the networking opportunities.

Is it worth submitting any domains? Domainers are not buying a whole lot these days!

i could part with a number of dotca's but for the most part I think I would prefer to wait..... and wait..... and wait. I didn;t easily see anywhere to submit domains. Selling to other domainers just seems odd because you know they want if for the least while you want to sell it for the most. It just doesn't seem like the right place to sell a domain name. Maybe I just have it all wrong.
