I'm seeing a lot of traction in the .TV tld.

Recently, I've seen many infomercials and print ads with .TV extensions for their web presence. Is this a regional thing (Northeast US) or is this a global phenomena?

or have I somehow been transported to Tavula in my sleep?

That's not traction you're seeing, it's skidmarks from the crash :)

From a domain resellers standpoint, .TV hasn't been worth consideration (Verisign's high reg and renewal fees wipes out any chance of making a profit from it for anyone but them). You can certainly develop them though.

Verisign charges $50 / yr for non-covetted domains in the .TV extension. Yes, expensive for you bottom dwellers, but a drop in the perverbial bucket for a legit business.

I've seen a few in the UK too recently.

OK...let's see then. I can register SEVEN .coms or ONE non-covetted .TV for the same money. Hmmm....in that case I'll take that Tuvalu name for sure! :)

Duke of Earl is right on the money Good call Duke!!!

I think for adult domains, .TV is #2 behind .com. I know this first hand, as I have both and make money from both. IMHO, quality .TV domains with a reg fee of $500 or less are a geat investment. .COM rules of course, and will continue to be #1 in traffic and value.

..do you conduct business seminars? Count me in...if I can ever get out of this hole that I reside in.

never seen a .tv comercial
infocomercial all the time.

In the UK, there are a lot of .tv domains making their way into television adverts and as email addresses for daytime television programmes. As expected. I really am surprised anyone could ever doubt the obvious attraction of .TV domains. You'll soon see them turning up everywhere! There are lots of good $50 names out there too. Remember, .com names were pricey when they first appeared - the price will probably drop when all the good names have gone - as with .com.

.TV means Tuvalu? Pah! How utterly, utterly ridiculous. But, in a similar vein, LASER : Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

It is so obvious that .TV will be massive - I mean, how obvious does it need to be? There is no way internet television stations, movie channels, sports networks, news networks etc could pass up the opportunity to market themselves under the .tv domain. That would be absurd! News.tv and sports.tv have recently been removed from the .TV site - they are under negotiation (the list price was $1000,000 for news.tv and something like $500,000 for sports.tv. This confirms that some big media guy somewhere thinks those names are catchy as hell!

You don't need to spend a fortune to make shed loads of cash in .TV domains in 5-10 years. All you need to do is register some of the $50 domains now - you'd be surprised how many good ones there are out there for $50. I have already made a few thousand selling .tv domains.

This is the sort of thing you shouldn't even need to think about.

We can't help it j8, the aliens told us it was ;)

There is a tv site that is advertised pretty frequently on cable, Johnny Walker's

http://www.keepwalking.tv

Overall, I think .tuvalu has limited application and for people who couldn't get the real thing on .com, .info or .biz. The guys over at http://www.online.tv who bought over 4,000 of those suckers may think otherwise though.

GM.TV is one,but they only got that extension because the show is GMTV.I saw an ad stuck to a wall about Einstein.TV but that's a channel too.

j8jweb, you are spot on!

Sorry to the rest. I know I'm the only bottom dweller here.

I agree that some names do go better with .tv but only the ones which are commonly reconized as being related to television. For example: PrimeTime.tv or DayTime.tv or News.tv... THe most common .tv domains out there are not worth 1/10 of the reg fee. Just as an experiment, i too registered a .tv domain, but am not planning on registering or purchasing any more. .tv is considered outside the television scope are useless crap and within the tv spectrum are very few in good rating. The ones worth anything are already gone, so i dont think there is a point in wasting $50 for the leftovers.

THe one i decided to take is AdNetwork.tv for the sole reason of it being the Television Advertising Network domain. I do not see real value in this one at this time, although i can see it going into play within the next few years.

As for real cash value, i think that the number of profitable .tv domains is below 50 and, once again, those are long gone.
