German speaking crowd (Austria, Germany) love hyphens and actually prefer them over non-hyphen domains.

Pattern like: word-in-place .com or place-word .com is ok as there is a market that likes hyphens.

Still, I would avoid these :)

Are there any technical issues or complications associated with using two hyphens in a domain name?

First of all, domains with hyphens are for machines (eg. search engines) and not for humans. Imagine someone remembering and typing a domain name with hyphens, makes it worse with multiple hyphens.

That said, It depends on the exact match and popular long tail keyword (with lots of traffic) and quality content, search engine may reward with showing in results.

One hyphen is okay for readability, but two can seem unprofessional and harder to remember. Keep it simple and clean.

What are your thoughts on having one or two hyphens in a domain name?
Hello, Deep Joshi, I think hyphenation separates word phrases and allows us to read them more clearly, it also increases brand recognition and helps with branding.

I don't like hyphens. If you say the domain you have to say "hyphen" or "dash", which for me is horrendous. With the number of TLDs now, it's quite easy to register a decent domain without a hyphen.

If you have a domain name that you don't intend to say out loud, but you want good keywords for SEO purposes, then maybe there could be a place for hyphens: domain-name-forum.com for example, is currently available.

Right, I have examish.com, ex-Amish.com and xamish.com as well as Formeramish.com. In those cases, I can say “ex Amish” on a video or audio, and people wouldn’t be likely to mistype it. I can link the hyphen domain name if I want but I don’t have to promote it.

how is your experience with Amish domains? are these resellable? .. how big is the community and do they care about domain names at all?
