..., then set some name servers. If your domain has no name servers, then it won't be in the zone file. If it's not in the zone file, then the wildcard will catch it. That's just how wildcard DNS works. It's not like VeriSign is intentionally targeting domains with no name servers.

It's my property, and if I don't want name servers, how does that give Verislime the right to use them?

It's not your property. It's VeriSign's property. They run com and net. When you register a com or net domain, you are simply renting a sub-domain of com or net through a broker (the registrar).

Sure, I can put some work into putting them on nameservers, but why should I have to spend any of my valuable time checking these and changing them?

You don't. If you're not using them, then why worry about it?

I also agree with the opinions expressed above about Verislime using unregistered typos of other peoples trademarked names to generate revenue.

See previous post.

I'll be making a call today to VRSN and add my complaint to their ignore file. This is another reason we need to form a coalition of Domainers to get our messages across in a bit louder voice.

You have the right to complain, but I think you're complaining for the wrong reasons.

You should reg the similar domains to that of your own comapny/website if your that conserned.

its not VS's fualt.

if they want the traffic they should have to do the same thing everyone else does. buy the domain rights to get the typos

This is a very sad thing to see...

way to fix em.. make a spell check on the address bar...
DID YOU MEAN?, and put your add and make it a downloadable plugin..

All it takes is an un regged TM famous or not. What difference is there between this and someone regging the name and redirecting it to a pay per click for the TM holder?

verislime.com is already registered and a one page site.

How can you check the google PR of non-resolving domain names now?

Here's something to do:

Put *random* email adresses ([email protected]) on all your websites to be harvested by spammer robots.

This will serve two purposes:

- It will saturate the spammers databases with resolving but unusable adresses
- By trying to deliver their spam, spammers will drive a distributed denial of service attack against Versign just by trying to connect to the mailserver of the bogus domains.

Excuse me. Where have you been over the last few months with the courts establishing domains as "property." They are property and they are my property, not Verislimes. Again, if I don't want to stick nameservers on "my property" that does not give Verislime the right to advertise on "my property." I don't care if they call it "wildcard" or "dummy prog" or "whateverthehell", they do NOT have the right to Squatt on my property, cyber or whatever. I do NOT have to set ANYTHING, it's my friggin "property". Verislime knows that their stupid wildcard will "target" my no-nameserver names, and yes they are "intentionally" targeting them.
What are you doing defending such a blantant abuse of other peoples property? Even if you were even close to being right about the rental comment (which you are not), an owner does not have the right to advertise on a tenants property, so your point is wrong in any event.

Here's yet another problem I found.

I had proggrammed a nifty system for use with billing and forms and whatnot...

The part I am talking about helps prevent people when ordering from typing in the wrong email addresss.. such as a typo etc

How it works, is that he disects the domain from the email
then it checks to see if that domain is a valid domain..

Now this very helpful script is useless..

why

host asjkdhfajksdh890232uio31kj4h23.net
asjkdhfajksdh890232uio31kj4h23.net has address 64.94.110.11

Every .com and .net is valid... and no I should not have to check and worry if verisign changed hostname or ip every week by adding a few extra lines.. that can cause headaches alone

Such a small problem and it isnt any of Verisigns concern.

Why should they care?

OMG a few hosts and ecommerce sites email validating scripts will no longer work :worried:

A Few? Try all of them, try every E-PROCCESSORS system in the world that works on a point based system.

This is just one example out of 50,000

So you're saying that we now need to take the same defensive reg action we take against other typosquatters and use that action to thrwart Verislime's typosquatting?

This whole wildcard crap needs to stop. You'd think that Verislime would have learned a lesson on the sex.com suit. They still think they own all the coms and we're just paying them for the privilege to use them for a while.

In frickin credible!

Lol!

So considering VS pays themseelves (and i believe ICANN 12 cents per reg) they could reg all the domains they wanted for $0 - $.12.

Would that make you happier?

Instead of them just using the unregged domains, they would than own all of the ones they wanted and make them unavail for anyone else...

No I think if you are that concerned about your typo traffic reg the typos of your site.

If htey didnt do this your customer would get a 404, and some may even think your site died.

This way, VS gets a few bucks (times 10000s :-D ) and they also suggest you a domain that you may have mispelled.

I think thier idea is a good one to make a some $.

Well, software was designed around something that is changing..

Things change in technology and people must addapt.

If you develop something in a changing world, you must realize that those in control may change it.

I believe i own a few stocks of thier but I really dont care how they perform becuase of that, it is minimal enough.

All my stocks were purchased in tech industry in 2000. Many in M$ (months before thier "issues" in court.

I now have about 1/3 of what i started.

That is the end of my Wall Street investments :-D

No I am not an employee of VS.

I dont go around breaking the rules of the DNS system and stealing peoples traffic.

But thats OK to do eh?

Yes but not after they see which 100,000,000 domains are getting the typos via illegal practices
