so just so i understand this he scams people how??? I would read the entire thread but am on a dial up connection. Plus he offered to buy one of my names and i would really like to know how to stay away from this thing entirely... In addition one of my names is for sale and since that time i have recieved offers from different people via email each one day apart makes me think that i could have a sammer on my tale plus both emails came from free email services gmail and hotmail. No real way to trace who it is.

Long story really, which I'll give fully to the mods, I guess you could say I'm a "partner", I never received cash for doing this, he transferred me a domain afterwards which I am waiting to get pushed back to the original owner (Talking to him as well), I was playing along with him originally and planned on getting access to the domain registrar account if possible to transfer all the names back to original owner but after he had a deal set up and I asked for that he said no so I told him I am going to just tell the buyer that they are stolen but he then blackmailed me saying he'd show that I was "in on it" on the forum and get me in trouble, so I got scared and backed off and shut up.

Full explanation will go to the mods though, am I gonna die?

You are aware that people have just lost over $100.000 in this, right? The role you played makes you an accomplice in a fraud.

The "playing along with him originally and planned on getting access to the domain registrar account if possible to transfer all the names back to original owner" explanation won't do. Getting banned is the least of your worries now...

If he can confirm egold pay you are in deep crap. If its true start refunding now and LIST all the names and buyers !

With or without the egold payment, he still is an accomplice in fraud. His commission for taking part in this fraud was f u c k e d . c o m, which on it's own is worth more than $5.000 mentioned. And even if there was no commission (not even in a form of a domain), he would still be guilty for taking part in this fraud.

This is a serious issue and it seems to me these kids have no idea what they got them self into. Wow... just wow.

Heads are going to roll... and rightfully so.

wow, great advice...because it's OK to commit crimes right? Actually because minors (in the US at least) cannot legally enter into a binding legal contract they should'nt even be here buying and selling domains..

Age is not a factor in this scam! Anyone involved in this scam is responsible for there choices! 9 year old boys would know the difference between good and bad choices!

the ugly thing is that the other scammers/hackers whatever who live outside the US/canada like this (fake?)iranian guy will never get cought..

If I'd go to the police here and say my $1million domain collection is stolen they'd never do anything about it, simply because 'internet crime' isnt very high on the police agenda..

Free Email accounts get hacked easily via known exploits / or people let free email lapse and scammer renews it .
Keylogger is also an old method ( internet cafe's are notorious )
Email is the "key" to domain ownership ... so scammer has effectivly control your Registrar account and in turn your domains.

In short
NEVER use free email..... if you can afford domains , then you can afford decent email hosting .
use a different ( private )email addy @ your registrars account that the one visible in your whois .
Use Roboform / roboform-to-go to ensure that you have secure passwords , also aids in avoiding keyloggers etc ..
Dont visit warez sites !
Use good antivirus/anti-trojan.

And when buying domains ... do due dilligence ! If it's too good to be true .... then it usually is .
Dont trust whois 100% ... if email has been exploited already , then the scammer can reply as if he is the real owner. Put a bit of effort in , and use domaintools

btw, for the email in whois, is it definitely safer using a email account you set up through your own hosting?
so a webmail account? is that harder for them to hack?

Not free , but secure , as exploits are less likely to be known if there is one , rather than on the more common free services.

In summary,

Domains were stolen and resold to members on this forum. One member of the forum actually participated in the reselling of the domain that was stolen. Even though he knew these domains were stolen, he still attempted in selling the domains with the other party. He later confessed, when everyone found out they were stolen domains. He was in turn to receive a domain for his work in reselling the domains that were stolen.

One member in the domain lost roughly 120K from the transaction. It is now being investigated by the police.

Quick summary, i hope it helps.

Be careful and be wise in your email choices. The domains that were stolen had a gmail account. Be safe and use an email that is not free.

this is a very old gmail glitch which has already been fixed as far as i know..
